Job summary

DataSpeed Sdn Bhd in Kuala Lumpur is seeking an experienced System Administrator to join our ICT team. This full‑time role focuses on maintaining, monitoring, securing, and optimising client IT infrastructure to ensure stability, security, availability and performance.

You will work with clients, internal teams and vendors on infrastructure planning, capacity management, and DR strategies, with opportunities for professional development in a hybrid environment.

Qualifications

• A diploma, advanced diploma, bachelor’s degree, or higher qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• At least five years of professional experience in a System Administrator/Infrastructure role.
• Strong hands-on experience administering Linux operating systems, with preference for RHEL-based distributions.
• Strong knowledge of the LEMP stack and databases such as MySQL, MariaDB, Redis.
• Experience in network administration (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, firewalls, VPN).
• Proficiency in managing virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper‑V, or KVM).
• Understanding high-availability and scalable architectures; security best practices; backup/DR; incident response.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, administer, and maintain servers, operating systems, and network devices within client environments.
• Monitor availability and performance, proactively resolving issues to minimise downtime.
• Manage user accounts, permissions and access controls.
• Implement, maintain, and test backup and disaster recovery procedures.
• Apply security patches, software updates and system upgrades.
• Provide technical support to clients and end users.
• Investigate incidents, identify root causes, and implement fixes.
• Document system configurations, changes, and procedures.
• Collaborate with clients, internal teams, vendors on planning and capacity management.
• Support high-availability, scalability and business continuity initiatives.
• Ensure services comply with policies, security standards and regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure, administer, and maintain servers, operating systems, and network devices within client environments.
• Monitor the availability and performance of client systems, proactively identifying and resolving issues to minimise downtime.
• Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls in accordance with client security and compliance requirements.
• Implement, maintain, and regularly test backup and disaster recovery procedures to protect clients’ critical systems and data.
• Apply security patches, software updates, and system upgrades to keep client infrastructure secure and up to date.
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to clients and end users.
• Investigate technical incidents, identify root causes, and implement appropriate corrective and preventive measures.
• Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations, infrastructure changes, operating procedures, and technical solutions.
• Collaborate with clients, internal team members, vendors, and technology partners on infrastructure planning and capacity management.
• Support the implementation of high-availability, scalability, and business continuity solutions.
• Ensure services are delivered in accordance with organisational policies, client requirements, security standards, and applicable regulations.

What we’re looking for

• A diploma, advanced diploma, bachelor’s degree, or higher qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• At least five years of professional experience as a System Administrator, Server Administrator, Infrastructure Engineer, or in a similar IT infrastructure role.
• Strong hands‑on experience administering Linux operating systems; experience with RHEL‑based distributions is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of the LEMP stack and experience administering technologies such as MySQL, MariaDB, and Redis.
• Experience in network administration, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, firewalls, and VPN technologies.
• Proficiency in managing virtualisation platforms such as VMware, Hyper‑V, or KVM.
• Solid understanding of high‑availability and scalable system architectures.
• Good knowledge of security best practices, including system hardening, firewall management, access control, vulnerability management, and intrusion detection.
• Experience implementing and managing backup and disaster recovery solutions.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues efficiently.
• Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with clients, technical teams, and non‑technical users.
• A service‑oriented mindset and the ability to manage client expectations professionally.
• Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and manage multiple client environments and technical responsibilities.

The following would be an advantage:

• Experience with cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• A DevOps background, including experience with automation, CI/CD pipelines, containerisation, infrastructure as code, or configuration management tools.
