The Store Controller is responsible for managing and controlling the receipt, storage, issuance, and movement of raw materials, components, packaging materials, and finished goods within the manufacturing store. The role ensures accurate inventory records, proper material handling, timely supply to production, and compliance with company procedures, quality, and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory & Stock Control
- Maintain accurate physical and system inventory records.
- Monitor stock levels and ensure materials are available according to production requirements.
- Conduct daily, weekly, or monthly stock checks and cycle counts.
- Investigate stock discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
- Monitor slow-moving, excess, obsolete, damaged, and expired materials.
Receiving & Inspection
- Receive incoming raw materials, components, packaging materials, and other goods.
- Check quantities, item codes, descriptions, and condition against purchase orders and delivery documents.
- Coordinate with QA/QC for inspection and release of materials where required.
- Ensure received materials are properly labelled and stored in designated locations.
- Report discrepancies, shortages, damages, or incorrect deliveries to the relevant departments.
Material Issuance to Production
- Issue materials to production based on approved material requisitions, production orders, or system requirements.
- Ensure the correct item, quantity, batch/lot number, and specification are issued.
- Record all material movements accurately in the ERP/inventory system.
- Coordinate with Production and Planning to ensure timely material availability.
- Process material returns from production and update inventory records accordingly.
Warehouse / Store Management
- Ensure materials are stored safely, systematically, and according to company requirements.
- Maintain proper identification, labelling, and location control of all inventory.
- Keep store areas clean, organized, and free from safety hazards.
- Ensure proper handling of fragile, sensitive, or controlled materials.
- Monitor storage conditions where temperature, humidity, or other requirements apply.
Documentation & System Management
- Maintain accurate records for goods received, goods issued, stock transfers, returns, and adjustments.
- Prepare regular inventory and stock movement reports.
- Maintain documentation for audits and traceability purposes.
- Ensure all transactions are supported by the appropriate documentation and approvals.
Coordination & Support
- Coordinate with Production, Planning, Purchasing, QA/QC, Finance, and Logistics regarding inventory and material requirements.
- Support production planning by providing accurate information on material availability.
- Assist with stock audits and investigations.
- Identify opportunities to improve inventory accuracy, storage efficiency, and material flow.
- Perform other store-related duties assigned by the supervisor or management.
Job Requirements
Education
- Minimum SPM / Certificate / Diploma in Warehouse Management, Logistics, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Relevant manufacturing or warehouse experience may be considered in place of formal qualifications.
Experience
- Preferably 1–3 years of experience in warehouse, inventory control, storekeeping, or manufacturing.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment is an advantage.
- Good knowledge of inventory and warehouse control procedures.
- Basic understanding of manufacturing material flow and production requirements.
- Computer literate, particularly in Microsoft Excel.
- Good organizational and documentation skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Able to identify and resolve stock discrepancies.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willing to work overtime or shifts when required.
