MFS Technology (M) Sdn Bhd is seeking a talented SMT Engineer to join our engineering team in Batu Berendam, Melaka. This is a full-time position that plays a crucial role in the design, development, and optimisation of surface mount technology (SMT) processes and printed circuit board assembly. As an SMT Engineer, you will be instrumental in ensuring the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and reliability in our electronics manufacturing operations. Your expertise will directly impact our ability to deliver cutting-edge electronic products to our customers and support the company's growth objectives within the electrical and electronic engineering sector.
Key responsibilities
- Design, develop and optimise SMT processes to improve production efficiency, yield rates and product quality
- Conduct feasibility studies for new printed circuit board designs and assembly requirements, including component placement and soldering parameters
- Establish and maintain SMT equipment settings, calibration standards and preventative maintenance schedules
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to SMT assembly, defects and equipment malfunctions
- Collaborate with procurement teams to evaluate and select appropriate components, materials and equipment suppliers
- Develop and implement process documentation, work instructions and standard operating procedures for SMT operations
- Conduct process audits and quality assessments to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer specifications
- Train and mentor production staff on proper SMT techniques, safety protocols and quality requirements
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, reduce costs and minimise waste
- Support product testing and validation activities to ensure reliability and performance standards are met
What we're looking for
- Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or a related discipline
- Minimum 2-3 years of hands-on experience working in SMT assembly, PCB manufacturing or electronics production environments
- Strong knowledge of SMT equipment, including placement machines, reflow ovens, wave soldering and inspection systems
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electronic schematics, PCB layouts and assembly drawings
- Understanding of soldering techniques, including reflow and wave soldering processes and IPC standards
- Experience with quality control measures, defect analysis and root cause analysis methodologies
- Familiarity with ERP systems or manufacturing software for process tracking and documentation
- Strong problem‑solving abilities and attention to detail in a fast‑paced production environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with cross‑functional teams
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies is highly desirable
- Relevant certifications such as IPC-A-J-STD-001 (Soldering) or IPC-7711/7721 (Rework and Repair) would be advantageous
