Job summary

Jora Malaysia is seeking a seasoned Process Engineer to lead SMT manufacturing, optimise processes and drive quality/yield improvements. You will support NPI activities, develop robust process controls and mentor junior engineers while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years in Process Engineering within semiconductor/electronics.
  • Hands-on SMT process experience: paste printing, placement, reflow, SPI, AOI.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; data-driven decisions.
  • Experience in ISO/IATF quality environments is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and continuously improve SMT processes for quality and yield.
  • Optimise process parameters across printing, placement, reflow, and inspection.
  • Drive yield improvement and defect reduction through data analysis and RCA.
  • Support NPI activities ensuring process readiness and ramp-up.
  • Maintain process documentation, control plans, and quality standards.
  • Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

This position is responsible for leading and optimising Surface Mount Technology (SMT) manufacturing processes to ensure high product quality, stable yields, and efficient production performance. The successful candidate will drive process improvements, support new product introductions, resolve manufacturing challenges, and provide technical leadership across cross-functional teams.

Description
  • Lead and continuously improve SMT manufacturing processes to achieve high levels of product quality, yield performance, and operational efficiency.
  • Optimise process parameters and establish effective controls across SMT operations, including printing, placement, reflow, and inspection processes.
  • Drive yield improvement and defect reduction initiatives through data analysis, root cause investigations, and structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities by ensuring process readiness, manufacturability, and successful product ramp-up.
  • Conduct process qualifications, validations, and capability assessments to maintain robust and repeatable manufacturing performance.
  • Monitor manufacturing KPIs and implement corrective actions to improve quality, productivity, and cost performance.
  • Act as the technical subject matter expert for SMT-related manufacturing issues, providing timely troubleshooting and resolution.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams including Production, Quality, Test Engineering, and Supply Chain to address operational challenges and support business objectives.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation, quality standards, and control plans to ensure compliance with company and industry requirements.
  • Lead continuous improvement, cost reduction, and technology enhancement initiatives through the evaluation of new materials, equipment, and manufacturing solutions.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers and technicians, fostering technical capability and best practices across the organisation.
Profile
  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related Engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Process Engineering within a semiconductor, electronics, or advanced manufacturing environment.
  • Proven hands-on experience with SMT manufacturing processes, including solder paste printing, component placement, reflow soldering, SPI, and AOI.
  • Demonstrated success in driving yield improvement, process optimisation, defect reduction, and manufacturing excellence initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of quality and process engineering methodologies such as SPC, DOE, PFMEA, Control Plans, and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Experienced in process qualification, validation, and continuous improvement within high-volume manufacturing environments.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Effective communicator who can collaborate and influence stakeholders across multiple functions and levels.
  • Natural leader with the ability to mentor technical teams and drive projects independently.
  • Experience supporting NPI activities and working within regulated quality environments such as ISO or IATF standards would be advantageous.
