Job summary

Techman Electronics (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. is seeking an SMT Manufacturing Engineer (ME/EE) to join our Penang team in Simpang Ampat. You will optimize SMT production, drive quality improvements, and collaborate with design to ensure manufacturability of electronic products.

The role bridges mechanical and electrical engineering with hands-on equipment management and process documentation to support a safe, efficient, and compliant manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• SMT manufacturing experience in electronics assembly.
• Ability to interpret schematics, PCB layouts and drawings.
• Familiarity with IPC standards (IPC-A-610, IPC-9014).
• Experience with MES and data analysis tools is advantageous.
• Strong problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and optimise SMT assembly processes including stencil printing, placement, reflow and inspection.
• Develop process improvements to boost efficiency, yield and quality.
• Perform root cause analysis and implement CAPA.
• Collaborate with design teams to ensure manufacturability and provide DFM feedback.
• Manage SMT equipment maintenance and calibration.
• Create and update work instructions and process specs.
• Troubleshoot equipment issues to minimise downtime.
• Train production operators on assembly techniques and quality standards.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and industry standards.
• Monitor KPIs and report manufacturing performance.

About the role

Techman Electronics (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. is seeking a skilled SMT Manufacturing Engineer (ME/EE) to join our dynamic engineering team. This is a full-time position based in Simpang Ampat, Penang, offering an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of surface mount technology manufacturing. As an SMT Manufacturing Engineer, you will play a crucial role in optimising our production processes, ensuring quality standards, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across our manufacturing operations. This role bridges mechanical and electrical engineering disciplines, making it ideal for a professional with expertise in both domains who is passionate about manufacturing excellence.

Key responsibilities

Oversee and optimise SMT assembly processes, including stencil printing, component placement, reflow soldering, and inspection procedures

Develop and implement process improvements to enhance production efficiency, yield rates, and product quality

Conduct root cause analysis on production issues and defects, implementing corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)

Collaborate with design engineering teams to ensure manufacturability of electronic products and provide design for manufacturing (DFM) feedback

Manage and maintain SMT equipment, including placement machines, reflow ovens, and automated optical inspection (AOI) systems

Create and update manufacturing work instructions, process specifications, and technical documentation

Perform troubleshooting and debugging of equipment-related problems to minimise downtime

Conduct training and support for production operators on assembly techniques and quality standards

Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental requirements

Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and report on production metrics and process performance

What we're looking for

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline

Minimum 3-5 years of experience in SMT manufacturing, electronics assembly, or related manufacturing environments

Strong understanding of SMT processes, including component placement, solder reflow, wave soldering, and quality control methods

Proficiency in reading and interpreting electronic schematics, PCB layouts, and manufacturing drawings

Experience with SMT equipment operation and maintenance (Siemens, Fuji, Yamaha, or equivalent placement machines)

Knowledge of IPC standards (IPC-A-610, IPC-9014) and electronics assembly best practices

Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work systematically through complex manufacturing challenges

Strong communication and teamwork abilities, with capacity to work effectively across departments

Computer proficiency with experience in manufacturing execution systems (MES), data analysis, and Office applications

Familiarity with quality management systems and continuous improvement methodologies (Six Sigma, Lean, Kaizen) is highly desirable

Multilingual capability (English and Mandarin or Malay) is advantageous
