SCHOTT Glass (M) Sdn Bhd seeks a Smart Manufacturing Engineer, Machine Integration to drive digital transformation by connecting production equipment to MES and OT 4.0 solutions. You will enhance machine visibility and provide reliable data for operational decisions, supporting MES, SCADA, and related data flows.
The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 5+ years in MES integration, industrial automation, and IoT.
This role of Machine Integration Engineer is to drive the site's digital transformation by connecting production equipment to manufacturing systems, improving machine visibility, and providing reliable data for operational decision-making. The role will support the development, integration, maintenance, and continuous improvement of MES and OT 4.0 solutions.
Key responsibilities
Implement, configure, maintain, and support production equipment integration to MES, SCADA, databases, and other manufacturing systems using Modbus, OPC UA, MQTT, REST APIs, and other industrial communication protocols.
Configure and support industrial edge devices, IoT gateways and communication middleware.
Design and document end-to-end data flows from machines and PLCs through gateways or middleware to MES, SCADA, databases and dashboards.
Support lifecycle management, patching, obsolescence planning and recovery of machine-integration components.
Implement monitoring and alerts for machine disconnection, data loss, communication failure and abnormal data.
Develop and maintain real-time visibility of machine status, utilization, and planned or unplanned downtime.
Ensure accurate and timely machine and shopfloor data collection.
Work with production, process engineering, and quality to understand what data is needed and how it will support downtime analysis, OEE, yield, or process monitoring.
Troubleshoot and support machine connectivity, data-transfer, dashboard, and system-integration issues.
Maintain technical documentation, including network diagrams, interface specifications, tag lists, data mappings and troubleshooting guides.
About you
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Networking, Engineering, Automation, or a related field.
At least five years of relevant experience in MES-machine integration, industrial automation, shopfloor application integration, IoT, and Industry IT/OT 4.0.
Familiar with machine-vision system design & concept principles.
Experience with PLC and HMI systems, preferably Omron, Mitsubishi, or Siemens.
Hands-on knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, OPC UA, MQTT and Ethernet/IP.
Good understanding of industrial IoT architecture, including sensors, PLCs, edge devices, OPC servers, gateways, industrial networks, middleware, centralized platforms, MES, SCADA, IoT, databases, and machine-integration concepts.
Experience using visualization and reporting tools to validate machine connectivity, monitor equipment status and present operational data.
Knowledge of relational and time-series databases, SQL and data-querying fundamentals.
Good knowledge of manufacturing processes, workflow and shopfloor operations.
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills with creative mindset.
