SCHOTT Glass (M) Sdn Bhd is seeking a Laser Cutting Engineer who will head New Product Development for optical glass laser cutting. You will plan, develop, and optimize laser processes, coordinating with development, production, product management, sales, quality, and suppliers to advance laser technology and deliver technical expertise to customers.

The role requires deep optical glass laser cutting know-how, DOE/SPC experience, and English proficiency, with a focus on meeting edge quality,

Qualifications

• University degree in a relevant field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in laser processing or related manufacturing.
• Deep know-how in optical glass laser cutting.
• Experience with DOE, SPC and quality tools.
• Proficiency in English and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Prepare process and technology roadmap for optical glass laser cutting.

• Develop laser cutting processes for brittle materials and inspect methods.
• Define process windows, parameters and quality criteria.
• Qualify machines and processes through trials and production validation.
• Optimize processes with Lean principles and transfer to production.

• Coordinate technicians and suppliers with project teams.
• Ensure IMSU/EHS and laser safety compliance.

Job description

The Laser Cutting Engineer serves as Head of New Product Development, responsible for planning, developing, and optimizing laser cutting processes for optical glass and equivalent brittle materials. This role involves coordinating with cross-functional teams including development, production, product management, sales, quality, and suppliers to advance laser processing technology and deliver technical expertise to customers and internal stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare process and technology roadmap for optical glass laser cutting and equivalent material applications
• Plan and coordinate development goals with development, production, product management, sales, quality, suppliers and customers
• Develop laser cutting processes for optical glass or equivalent brittle materials, including process concept, laser source selection, optical configuration, tooling, handling, and inspection methods
• Define process windows, critical parameters and quality criteria to achieve edge quality, dimensional accuracy, low microcrack level, productivity and cost targets
• Qualify machines and processes through structured trials, DOE, capability studies and production validation
• Optimize existing laser processes under consideration of Lean Management principles and transfer qualified technologies into production
• Serve as point of contact for technical scientific advice and support to customers, sales offices and internal stakeholders
• Prepare competition analysis including benchmarking of laser cutting technologies and machine concepts
• Coordinate assigned technicians, operators, suppliers or project team members and provide technical guidance and training
• Ensure adherence to legal laws and internal regulations concerning IMSU/EHS and laser safety

About you

• University Degree in Engineering, Physics, Material Science, Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent
• Minimum 5 years occupational experience in laser processing, precision manufacturing, optical glass cutting, brittle material processing, machine/process qualification or production technology
• Deep know-how in optical glass laser cutting or equivalent materials
• Knowledge of laser technology selection such as UV, green, IR, picosecond or femtosecond
• Experience with DOE, SPC, process capability, and quality tools
• Proficiency in English and MS Office
