Job summary

SCHOTT Glass (M) Sdn Bhd is seeking an MES Engineer to lead the implementation, maintenance and enhancement of MES systems on the shop floor in Penang. You will collaborate with Production, Supply Chain and IT, ensuring data integrity and reliable reporting to drive OEE and downtime improvements.

The role requires a strong background in MES, data pipelines, and cross-system integration, with a focus on Industry 4.0 initiatives and digital transformation across manufacturing operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/IT/Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of MES end-to-end implementation experience in manufacturing.
• Strong understanding of MES framework, master data, configurations and workflows.
• Experience with SAP, PLC and SCADA integrations.
• Proficient in reporting/data-visualization tools (Power BI, Grafana).
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Job description

The MES Engineer supports the implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), manufacturing data solutions and related OT applications. The role works closely with Production, Supply Chain, Quality, IT and external partners to improve system integration, data reliability and manufacturing efficiency. The position also contributes to the site's OT 4.0 and digital-transformation initiatives.

Key responsibilities

Implement, configure, maintain and upgrade MES and related manufacturing applications including label printing.

Gather business and operational requirements from Production, Supply Chain, Quality and other stakeholders and translate them into functional requirements.

Support integration and data flow between MES, SAP, SCADA, machines and other business systems.

Develop and maintain data pipelines and processing workflows.

Ensure manufacturing data in MES is accurate, consistent and reliable.

Transform raw production data into structured information for reporting and analysis purposes.

Develop and maintain production reports and dashboards for KPIs such as OEE, yield and downtime.

Analyze manufacturing data to identify trends and process-improvement opportunities.

Identify and resolve MES-related issues by troubleshooting system, interface, connectivity and data-quality issues.

Coordinate with IT teams, system vendors and other technical partners to resolve issues and implement improvements in MES.

About you

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related field.

More than 5 years of relevant experience in Manufacturing environment, focusing on MES end-to-end implementation, shopfloor application, system integration or Industry 4.0 initiatives.

Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, MES framework, MES master data & configuration, workflows and quality requirements.

Knowledge of databases and SQL for data extraction and analysis.

Knowledge of integrating MES with systems such as SAP, PLC, SCADA or shop-floor equipment.

Experience with reporting or data-visualization tools such as Microsoft Power BI, Grafana, One Data or equivalent.

Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional team.
