Job summary

SCHOTT Glass (M) Sdn Bhd in Penang Prai is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to develop new manufacturing processes and transfer them to high-volume production. You will create drawings, define tooling and jigs, and work with external suppliers to ensure readiness as products scale up.

The role requires a BSc/MSc/PhD in Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years in mechanical design within the optical or semiconductor industry, and strong CAD/CAM/NX/SolidWorks skills.

Qualifications

• BSc/MSc/PhD in Mechanical Engineering required.
• More than 5 years experience in mechanical designing within semiconductor or optical industry.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes in optical or semiconductor industry.
• Understanding tolerances to fit product design.
• Know-how in CAD/CAM/NX/SolidWorks software.

Responsibilities

• Develop new manufacturing processes and transfer them to high-volume production.
• Create product or process drawings based on technical requirements.
• Define and design intralogistics carriers, tooling & jigs during development.
• Coordinate with external supplier for tooling readiness.
• Support DFM from design to production line modification.
• Create and manage tooling and jig drawings and specifications.
• Evaluate change requests with respect to geometrical implications.
• Collaborate across Design, Product Engineering, Process Integration to improve tooling.
• Summarize complex tooling issues, develop actions, and build consensus across teams.
• Define sub-milestones for projects within overall program timelines.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing as new product/tech transfers from R&D to production.

Job description

Responsible to develop new manufacturing processes and transfer them to high volume production.

Key responsibilities

Create product or process drawings based on technical requirement

Define and design intralogistics carriers, tooling & jigs during new product development stage

Coordinate with external supplier for all the new products tooling and jigs readiness

Support the DFM process from new product design to completed modification of production line

Create and manage all product and process tooling and jigs related drawings and geometrical specifications and maintain the designing list

Evaluate internal and external change requests to product or process with respect to geometrical implications

Work cross-functionally with multiple groups including Design, Product Engineering, Process Integration, Process Development to identify and improve tooling & jigs designing based on new process development feasibility

Summarize complex problems with regards to new tooling and jigs design, develop actions to address them, and build consensus across teams to drive for solutions

Define and achieve sub-milestones for projects within the larger timelines of the overall program needs

Close collaboration with Manufacturing as new product and technology is transferred from R&D phase into production

About you

BSc/MSc/PhD Degree in Mechanical Engineering

More than 5 years experience in the field of mechanical designing within the semiconductor or optical industry

Understanding of manufacturing processes in optical or semiconductor industry

Understanding the tolerances in order to best fit the product design

Know how in CAD/CAM/NX/Solidworks software

Know how in design mechanical parts

Excellent communication, organizational, and team building skills
