Job summary

HOMA ENGINEERING (M) SDN BHD is seeking a Senior Purchasing Manager (Construction) in Penang Island to lead procurement for construction projects. You will oversee supplier selection, contract management, and cost-effective sourcing of materials and services, ensuring timely delivery and quality.

The role requires extensive experience in construction procurement, strong negotiation skills, and leadership abilities to mentor a procurement team while collaborating with project managers and site

Qualifications

• 8–10 years' experience in purchasing/procurement or supply chain management, with significant construction industry exposure.
• Proven track record of managing large-scale procurement projects and budgets.
• Strong negotiation skills with ability to secure competitive pricing while maintaining supplier relationships.
• Excellent knowledge of construction materials, equipment, and industry specifications.
• Advanced proficiency in procurement software systems and MS Office Suite.
• Demonstrated leadership capabilities with experience building and mentoring teams.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
• Understanding of supply chain risk management and mitigation strategies.
• Qualification in procurement, supply chain management, or a related field (preferred).
• Knowledge of regulations, standards, and compliance in construction procurement.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategic purchasing strategies and policies for construction materials, equipment, and services.
• Manage the complete procurement lifecycle, including supplier identification, negotiation, selection, and contract management.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and vendors, ensuring quality standards and timely delivery.
• Analyse market trends and pricing to identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.
• Oversee inventory management and material planning to support construction project timelines and requirements.
• Prepare and manage procurement budgets, ensuring adherence to financial targets and optimising spend.
• Lead and mentor junior purchasing staff, fostering a culture of professional development and excellence.
• Liaise with project managers, site supervisors, and other departments to understand purchasing requirements and priorities.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, regulations, and industry standards in all procurement activities.
• Monitor supplier performance and implement corrective actions to maintain service quality.

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Purchasing Manager (Construction) to join our team on a full-time basis in Penang Island, Penang. This is a strategic position within our procurement function, responsible for overseeing all purchasing activities related to construction projects and materials. As Senior Purchasing Manager, you will play a pivotal role in optimising our procurement processes, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring cost-effective sourcing of construction materials and services. This role is integral to supporting our operational objectives and contributing to the overall success of our construction-related ventures.
