Private Advertiser is seeking a skilled Procurement Specialist in Penang, Malaysia to lead daily purchasing and supplier management for a manufacturing environment. You will source materials, evaluate suppliers, and issue POs while ensuring timely delivery and adherence to procedures.
The ideal candidate has 5+ years in purchasing, experience with CNC/precision engineering is a plus, and strong negotiation and communication skills.
Manage daily purchasing and procurement activities, including sourcing, quotation comparison, purchase requisition, and purchase order issuance.
Source, evaluate, and develop reliable suppliers for raw materials, machining tools, components, consumables, and subcontract services.
Negotiate with suppliers on price, payment terms, lead time, delivery schedules, quality requirements, and other commercial conditions.
Prepare and issue Purchase Orders (POs) and ensure purchasing activities comply with company procedures and requirements.
Monitor and follow up closely on supplier deliveries to ensure materials are received according to production requirements.
Coordinate with Production, Planning, Engineering, Warehouse, and Quality departments to ensure continuous material availability.
Monitor supplier performance based on Quality, Cost, Delivery (QCD) and take appropriate action when performance does not meet expectations.
Handle supplier-related issues such as delivery delays, material shortages, quality problems, price changes, and discrepancies.
Develop and maintain good working relationships with existing suppliers while identifying alternative and potential new suppliers.
Conduct price comparisons, market research, and supplier negotiations to identify cost-saving and cost-reduction opportunities.
Review purchasing trends and supplier pricing to support budgeting and cost-control initiatives.
Work with Engineering and Quality teams on new materials, technical requirements, supplier qualification, and alternative sourcing.
Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier information, quotations, POs, delivery status, and related documentation.
Support supplier evaluation, performance reviews, and continuous improvement activities.
Identify opportunities to improve procurement processes, purchasing efficiency, and overall supply-chain performance.
Provide purchasing reports and updates to management on spending, cost savings, supplier performance, outstanding orders, and material availability.
Lead or support procurement improvement projects and mentor junior purchasing staff where required.
Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum 5 years of purchasing/procurement experience in a manufacturing environment.
Experience in CNC machining or precision engineering is an advantage.
Good negotiation and communication skills.
Familiar with ERP systems and Microsoft Office.
Able to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
