Job summary

OCBC is seeking a highly skilled AS400 (IBM i) System Engineer to join Infrastructure Services in Malaysia. You will safeguard the core banking system environment—IBM i, storage, SANs, and key management—while performing patching, DR exercises, and performance tuning.

The role emphasizes proactive troubleshooting, capacity planning, and documentation, with exposure to Guardium, ConnectDirect and PowerHA. Banking experience is advantageous, and the team supports a future-ready banking platform.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 7 years’ hands-on experience with IBM i (AS400).
• At least 2 years’ experience with storage and SAN products.
• Proven experience with Virtual Tape Library (VTL).
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Familiarity with IBM i PowerHA is desirable.
• Knowledge of IBM Storage solutions like DS and FlashSystems is a plus.
• Experience with IBM i CL/SQL, programming, Ansible or AI automation is advantageous.
• Exposure to IBM Security Guardium, WebSphere MQ, ConnectDirect or SR-IOV is beneficial.
• Banking or financial services experience is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and maintain health of the core banking system environment (IBM i, storage, SANs, encryption key managers).
• Perform regular system health checks for hardware and OS to ensure reliability.
• Diagnose and resolve software/hardware issues promptly to minimize downtime.
• Optimize housekeeping jobs for new objects and efficiency.
• Conduct system performance analysis and tuning to improve throughput.
• Plan and execute patch management for IBM products (IBM i PTF, VIOS, CMS, ConnectDirect, Security Guardium).
• Manage OS installations, restorations and upgrades for IBM i environments.
• Conduct capacity planning to support growth and scalability.
• Manage IBM i hardware resources via HMC or OS-level tools.
• Configure environments to support new application rollouts.
• Execute BAU and project-based change requests.
• Coordinate system role-swaps during disaster recovery exercises.
• Perform backups/restores during urgent situations.
• Drive DR, patching, monitoring and AI automation improvements.
• Maintain configurations, standards and policies documentation.
• Support BRMS for IBM i backups, retention and inventory.
