Job summary

Omya in Kuala Lumpur seeks an experienced Customs specialist to manage import/export declarations, HS classifications, origin determinations, and related regulatory compliance. You will handle government procedures, liaise with brokers and carriers, and ensure accurate documentation and timely releases.

The role requires 6+ years in customs, strong knowledge of tariffs and trade controls, and fluency in English plus local language.

Qualifications

• University degree in Logistics / Supply Chain Management / International Trade / Business Administration / Finance or related field
• 6+ years of relevant working experience in a related position
• Hands-on experience with import/export customs documentation, clearance execution, duty and tax payment, and statutory reporting
• Experience with customs brokers, freight forwarders, carriers, and customs authorities, including SLA follow-up, exception handling, and claims
• Proficient command of English and local language(s)

Responsibilities

• Prepare, review, and submit import and export customs declarations with correct HS codes, valuation, and origin
• Issue and validate origin documents under applicable trade agreements
• Handle customs documentation for drop shipments, intercompany transfers, and cross-border movements
• Execute governmental customs procedures such as bonded warehousing and inward/outward processing
• Coordinate with carriers, brokers, forwarders, and internal teams to ensure timely release and delivery
• Screen shipments against sanctions, embargoes, and export control regulations
• Manage duties, VAT, and customs guarantees and identify duty optimization opportunities
• Submit periodic reports and declarations within legal deadlines
• Maintain customs records and master data in line with retention policies
• Handle customs claims including root-cause analysis and corrective actions
• Check license/permit requirements (food, pharma, dual-use)
• Identify regulatory requirements per material & country
• Manage license/permit applications
• Ensure adherence to Omya customs standards and audits
