Sunway Medical Centre Penang is seeking an Assistant Finance Manager to support the finance department in managing accounts, controls, and statutory compliance in Malaysia. The role focuses on month-end close, financial reporting, budgeting, and cash flow management, with emphasis on internal controls and audit coordination.

Assist Finance Manager in managing accounts and finance department and compliance in all statutory requirements.
Implement and monitor of the control and procedures, as well as enhance workflow and process improvements.
Provide with accurate, objective and understandable information to relevant parties.
Perform monthly, quarterly and annual AR reconciliation and closing activities.
Ensure timely closing of accounts and month-end reporting.
Review general ledger transactions and account reconciliations.
Monitor accruals, prepayments, provisions, and fixed assets.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
Analyze financial performance and explain significant variances.
Ensure healthy financial position and balance sheet items are in optimize manner.
Assist and support in annual budget preparation.
Prepare monthly financial forecasts and cash flow projections.
Monitor budget performance and identify variances.
Support management with financial analysis and give financial insights.
Evaluate business proposals, investments, and cost-saving initiatives.
Ensure accounting processes are comply with company policies and accounting standards, with no major findings from internal or external auditors.
Review controls surrounding billing, collections, and revenue recognition.
Liaise with external auditors during statutory audits.
Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation.
Evaluate effectiveness of internal controls and processes.
Recommend improvements to mitigate risks.
Follow up on audit findings and corrective actions.
Assist in implementing governance and compliance frameworks.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and statutory requirements.
Coordinate corporate tax, SST/GST/VAT submissions where applicable.
Prepare regulatory reports and government submissions.
Monitor changes in accounting and tax regulations.
Assist in tax submission and preparing tax schedule. Liaise tax agents queries and review tax computation.
Assist superior in tax planning and optimization tax incentives.
Monitor cash positions and working capital.
Review bank reconciliations and treasury transactions.
Manage payment cycles and cash flow planning.
Liaise with banks regarding financing facilities.
Assist in liaison with Group Finance i.e Group Treasury, Group Tax, Group Legal, and Company Secretary for business expansion, i.e tax planning, tax incentives, fund raising.
Working closely with Group Finance in tracking all project progress cost and processing project claims.
Identify opportunities for automation and process efficiency and eliminate unnecessary manual work.
Review finance workflows and SOPs.
Support system enhancements and finance process improvements initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Conduct risk assessments on finance processes.
Strengthen financial governance controls.
Work closely with department heads on budgeting and cost control.
Present financial information to management.
Liaise with auditors, tax agents, bankers, and regulators.
Mentor junior finance team members.
To assist at monthly and yearly stock take activities.
Participate in any spot check or verifier for cash or asset counting.
Strong knowledge of accounting standards (MFRS/IFRS).
Ability to prepare and review full sets of accounts.
Strong understanding of internal controls and audit procedures.
Good knowledge of taxation and regulatory compliance.
Advanced Excel and ERP system proficiency.
Identify financial risks and control gaps.
Perform root cause analysis on financial issues.
Provide meaningful business insights rather than only reporting numbers.
Recommend cost optimization and process improvements.
Work independently with minimal supervision.
Drive audit and compliance activities.
Guide and review work of junior staff.
Demonstrate strong integrity and professional judgment.
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent.
Prior experience in audit firms (Big Four or mid-tier audit firms) is preferred.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Good command of English and Bahasa Malaysia (Mandarin is an added advantage, if applicable).
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
