SCHOTT Glass (M) Sdn Bhd in Penang is seeking a Senior Engineer for Reliability & Failure Analysis. You will build reliability testing capability, perform failure analysis, and support customers with technical evidence and robust problem solving.

The role requires a minimum of 5 years in related fields, knowledge of ISO 9001, and strong data-driven analysis. You will collaborate across QA, Design, Production, and external labs to ensure product quality and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years' experience in manufacturing, quality, reliability, failure analysis, laboratory testing, metrology, product validation, process engineering, application engineering or similar technical role.
• Degree in Science, Engineering, Technology, Physics, Materials Science, Mechanical/Chemical Engineering or related field.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001 and customer-specific quality requirements.
• Knowledge of APQP, Design Review, FMEA, Control Plan, MSA, SPC, 8D and structured problem-solving methods.
• Advanced level in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills.
• Good command of written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

• Establish reliability and failure analysis capability for strategic customer projects, including glass strength characterization and surface wettability.
• Coordinate setup, qualification, stabilization, and maintenance of reliability testing capability.
• Define reliability test flow, sample prep, test conditions, acceptance criteria, and reporting format.
• Support outgoing quality and reliability testing needs for customers.
• Coordinate internal and external failure analysis for production quality issues and complaints.
• Support defect verification, containment evidence, RCA, and failure mechanism identification.
• Work with QA, Design & Application, Production, SQE, labs, and suppliers to define failure analysis methods.
• Prepare technical findings and support 8D/RCCA with objective evidence.
• Establish, review, and revise reliability test methods, procedures, forms, and records.
• Analyze reliability data, failure results, trends, and abnormal findings.

Job description

Senior Engineer, Reliability & Failure Analysis

Responsible for developing and strengthening HFP reliability testing, failure analysis, metrology support, and technical investigation capability under the Quality Excellence function. The role supports customer project requirements, including but not limited to edge strength, water contact angle, outgoing quality verification, and customer-requested reliability / failure analysis. The role also builds reusable HFP-wide capability for product qualification, customer complaints, technical evidence generation, and preventive quality improvement.

Key responsibilities

Establish reliability and failure analysis capability for strategic customer projects, including support for glass strength characterization, surface wettability, and customer-specific reliability verification

Coordinate setup, qualification, stabilization, and maintenance of reliability testing capability

Define reliability test flow, sample preparation requirements, test conditions, acceptance criteria, and reporting format

Support outgoing quality and reliability testing needs for HFP customers

Coordinate internal and external failure analysis for production quality issues, customer complaints, and qualification failures

Support defect verification, containment evidence, technical root cause analysis, and failure mechanism identification

Work with QA, Design & Application, Production, SQE, external laboratories, and equipment suppliers to define suitable failure analysis methods

Prepare technical findings and support 8D / RCCA response with objective evidence

Establish, review, and revise reliability test methods, work instructions, operating procedures, training materials, forms, and records

Analyze reliability test data, failure analysis results, measurement results, trends, and abnormal findings

About you

Minimum 5 years' working experience in manufacturing, quality, reliability, failure analysis, laboratory testing, metrology, product validation, process engineering, application engineering, or related technical function

A degree in Science, Engineering, Technology, Physics, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Quality Engineering or any other related field

Knowledge of reliability testing, failure analysis, product validation, metrology, and technical investigation methods

Knowledge of ISO 9001 and customer-specific quality requirements

Knowledge in APQP, Design Review, FMEA, Control Plan, MSA, SPC, 8D and structured problem-solving methodology

Advanced level in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Ability to plan and coordinate reliability tests, failure analysis activities, sample preparation, test execution, data analysis, and reporting

Strong data analysis, statistical evaluation, and technical problem-solving skills

Good command of written and spoken English for internal, customer, and technical communication

Effective communication and coordination skills, strong analytical thinking, high attention to detail, and ability to work independently and manage multiple investigations or tests in parallel
