Job summary

Jora Malaysia is seeking a Design Engineer to lead drone/UAV systems design, including mechanical structures and propulsion, and to optimise motors, propellers, frames and assemblies.

You will perform performance calculations, develop and test prototypes, integrate sensors and flight controllers, prepare 3D models, drawings and BOMs, and support manufacturing with design verification and reliability testing. Close collaboration with Production, Engineering and Sourcing is essential.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Robotics, Automation Engineering or related disciplines.
  • 5+ years of drone/UAV, robotics, automation, motor/propulsion systems or related product development.
  • Experience with design software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD.
  • Able to conduct testing, analyse performance data and recommend design improvements.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work with multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop drone/UAV systems including mechanical structures and propulsion.
  • Design and optimise motors, propellers, frames and mechanical assemblies.
  • Perform motor performance calculations and simulations.
  • Develop, test prototypes and troubleshoot design issues.
  • Prepare 3D models, drawings, BOMs and manufacturing docs.
  • Identify and resolve mechanical, electrical and system-level issues during prototype development and production.
  • Support NPI and product improvement activities, including engineering changes and design optimisation.
  • Evaluate new technologies, components and materials to improve drone performance, stability, efficiency and reliability.

  • Design and develop drone/UAV systems, including mechanical structures, propulsion systems and related components.
  • Design and optimise drone motors, propellers, frames and mechanical assemblies to achieve the required performance and efficiency.
  • Perform calculations and simulations for motor performance, thrust, torque, vibration, weight and power consumption.
  • Develop and test prototypes, conduct functional testing and troubleshoot design issues.
  • Integrate motors, ESCs, sensors, flight controllers and automation systems into drone platforms.
  • Develop and improve automated control and flight systems for drone applications.
  • Prepare 3D models, engineering drawings, BOMs and technical documentation for manufacturing.
  • Conduct design verification, validation and reliability testing.
  • Identify and resolve mechanical, electrical and system-level issues during prototype development and production.
  • Support NPI and product improvement activities, including engineering changes and design optimisation.
  • Evaluate new technologies, components and materials to improve drone performance, stability, efficiency and reliability.
  • Work closely with Production, Engineering, Sourcing, and Sales teams.
  • Willing to travel occasionally for supplier development, technical reviews, product development and supplier audits, primarily within China and Southeast Asia.

To be successful in this role:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Robotics, Automation Engineering or related disciplines.
  • 5 years and above of experience in drone/UAV, robotics, automation, motor/propulsion systems or related product development.
  • Experience with design software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD
  • Able to conduct testing, analyse performance data and recommend design improvements.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Candidates with hands-on drone, RC aircraft, robotics or autonomous system projects are encouraged to apply.
