The Junior Mechanical Designer will support the engineering team in designing industrial automation systems, robotic equipment, machine components, jigs, fixtures and other mechanical solutions. The successful candidate will prepare accurate 2D drawings, 3D models and technical documentation while ensuring that designs meet project requirements, manufacturing capabilities and safety standards.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare 2D technical drawings and 3D mechanical models for industrial automation systems, machines and equipment.
- Assist in designing machine structures, frames, covers, guarding, brackets, jigs, fixtures, grippers, conveyors and other mechanical components.
- Develop detailed fabrication, machining and assembly drawings with accurate dimensions, tolerances and material specifications.
- Prepare and maintain Bills of Materials (BOM), drawing lists and other project documentation.
- Select suitable mechanical components, materials and standard parts based on project requirements.
- Check component dimensions, clearances, assembly arrangements and design feasibility before drawings are released for fabrication.
- Revise drawings and designs according to feedback from project engineers, production teams and customers.
- Work closely with electrical engineers, programmers, machinists, fabricators and assembly technicians throughout the project.
- Support the engineering team during machine assembly, testing, troubleshooting and commissioning.
- Conduct site measurements and collect technical information when required.
About you
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, Mechatronics Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 1 - 2 years in automation or equipment integration environment.
- Basic knowledge of 3D CAD and 2D drafting software, preferably SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
- Able to read and understand mechanical drawings, dimensions and tolerances.
- Basic knowledge of machining, sheet-metal fabrication, welding and mechanical assembly is an advantage.
- Interest in industrial automation, robotics and machine design.
- Good problem-solving ability, attention to detail and willingness to learn.
- Able to communicate and work effectively as part of a project team.
- Able to manage assigned work and meet project deadlines.
- Willing to travel to customer sites when required.
