Job summary

Responsibilities

• Support external and internal audits with schedules and documentation.
• Assist with tax, statutory and regulatory reporting where required.

Job description

The Senior Accounts Executive will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely month-end closing and maintaining the integrity of the group entities' general ledger and financial records.

Key responsibilities include:

• Perform and coordinate monthly, quarterly and year-end closing activities in accordance with the closing timetable.
• Prepare and post month-end journal entries, including accruals, prepayments, depreciation, amortisation, provisions and other adjusting entries and schedules.
• Maintain the general ledger (GL) and ensure transactions are recorded accurately and in the appropriate accounting period.
• Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations and investigate and resolve outstanding or unusual reconciling items.
• Review and reconcile bank accounts, intercompany balances, accounts receivable, accounts payable and other key balance sheet accounts.
• Perform intercompany reconciliation and follow up on discrepancies with relevant entities.
• Review the monthly trial balance and Profit & Loss accounts, identify unusual movements and investigate variances.
• Assist in preparing monthly management accounts and financial reporting schedules.
• Maintain fixed asset schedules and reconcile them to the general ledger.
• Support external and internal audits by preparing schedules, reconciliations and supporting documentation.
• Assist with tax, statutory and regulatory reporting requirements where required.
• Ensure accounting records and supporting documents are properly maintained and comply with company policies and applicable accounting standards.
• Work closely with AP, AR, Treasury and other finance team members to ensure all closing activities are completed within deadlines.
• Identify opportunities to improve the month-end closing process, reconciliations and internal controls.
• Perform other finance and accounting duties as assigned, report to team lead.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree/Diploma in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• Approximately 3-5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably with hands-on responsibility for month-end closing and general ledger accounting.
• Strong understanding of double-entry accounting, accrual accounting and month-end closing procedures.
• Hands-on experience preparing journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Good understanding of MFRS/IFRS and Malaysian accounting practices.
• Experience handling multiple entities or intercompany transactions would be an advantage.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP and other commonly used accounting functions.
• Experience with ERP/accounting systems; Odoo experience would be an advantage.
• Able to work independently, meet tight month-end deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
• Strong attention to detail with good analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English and Chinese.

Preferred Candidate

• We are looking for a hands-on accountant who understands the complete month-end closing cycle, rather than someone whose experience is limited mainly to AP or AR processing.
• The successful candidate should be comfortable taking ownership of assigned entities/accounts from transaction review through reconciliation, closing and preparation of the final trial balance.
• Experience in a multi-company, financial services, fintech, payment, forex or other fast-paced environment would be an advantage.
