Job summary

U Mobile is seeking an experienced IT Security leader to drive cybersecurity strategy, risk management, and governance across the organisation. You will oversee a security-focused team, manage budgets, and coordinate across business units to ensure secure, compliant operations.

The role requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced telecommunications tech environment. Malay and English communications are needed, with a Bachelor's degree as a baseline.

Job Summary

Lead and manage the organisation’s IT Security function by driving the development and execution of cybersecurity strategies, policies, and risk management frameworks to protect business operations. The role oversees team performance and development, CAPEX and OPEX budgets, vendor delivery, and cross-functional stakeholder collaboration. It is also responsible for maintaining compliance, monitoring the organisation’s security posture, managing broader IT risks—including business continuity—and providing timely reporting and analysis to senior management. The ideal candidate is an experienced IT leader with strong cybersecurity expertise, leadership capabilities, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced and evolving technology environment.

The Day-to-Day Activities

• Lead and manage the IT Security team, including setting KPIs for direct reports, monitoring and reviewing performance periodically, developing team capabilities, and ensuring that business and IT security goals are achieved.
• Develop and implement U Mobile’s Cybersecurity Plan, including strategies and IT solutions that minimise the risk of cyberattacks. Plan and monitor all IT security activities, establish security policies, audit the effectiveness of implemented security measures, ensure user compliance, and periodically review and upgrade security policies and systems.
• Manage all activities relating to IT risks beyond cybersecurity, including the development, implementation, and maintenance of Business Continuity Plans.
• Develop and manage the department’s CAPEX and OPEX budgets, while monitoring vendors and IT partners against agreed KPIs, contractual specifications, terms, and conditions to ensure successful delivery.
• Build strong relationships and collaborate across business and technology departments to deliver secure solutions that meet internal and external customers’ business needs.
• Provide periodic project status reports, elevate issues when required, and conduct project post-mortems to identify successful elements and areas for improvement. Report the organisation’s security posture and incidents quarterly to the Audit Committee and ensure that all cybersecurity-related incidents are reported promptly.

About You

• Degree in Information Technology with a minimum of 18 years of working experience in an IT technical field.
• Strong digital leadership skills, with the ability to empower and lead an IT team, build effective business partnerships, and drive business and IT security objectives.
• Passionate about technology and security, with the adaptability and flexibility to embrace change, keep pace with emerging security technologies, and respond to evolving demands.
• Strong analytical, creative-thinking, and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to manage multiple information sources, prioritise concurrent projects, and provide clear analysis to senior management.
• Strong customer focus, stakeholder management, presentation, and verbal and written communication skills across direct reports, senior management, and internal and external customers.
• Proven experience managing vendors against contractual deliverables and departmental CAPEX and OPEX budgets, with experience in billing systems, CRM, other telecommunications operations systems, and knowledge of financial services regulations.
