Job summary

SINOHYDRO CORPORATION (M) SDN BHD is seeking a Safety and Health Assistant to join our Kota Kinabalu team. You will support health, safety and environmental practices, implement policies, conduct inspections and work with our HSE team to minimise risks for our workforce.

Ideal candidates hold a Diploma or Bachelor’s in OH&S with NEBOSH or IOSH certification and 2–3 years’ experience in construction safety. English and Malay fluency is required; driving licence and travel to project sites are

Qualifications

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering or a related field.
• Valid certifications in health and safety such as NEBOSH, IOSH or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular safety inspections and audits on construction sites to identify hazards and non-compliance issues.
• Assist in the development, implementation and review of health and safety policies and procedures.
• Provide safety induction and training to workers on site, including toolbox talks and safety briefings.
• Maintain accurate records of incidents, near-misses and safety observations.
• Investigate workplace incidents and near-misses, documenting findings and recommending corrective actions.
• Monitor the use of PPE and ensure compliance with safety standards.
• Liaise with authorities and external safety agencies as required.
• Assist in safety documentation, reports and statistics.
• Support the development of emergency response and evacuation procedures.
• Promote a positive safety culture and encourage worker participation in safety initiatives.

About the role

We are seeking a Safety and Health Assistant to join SINOHYDRO CORPORATION (M) SDN BHD in Kota Kinabalu. This is a full-time position based in the Kota Kinabalu District, Sabah, offering an excellent opportunity to support and advance health, safety and environmental practices within our construction operations. As Safety and Health Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring compliance with safety regulations and promoting a strong safety culture across our projects. You will assist in the implementation of health and safety policies, conduct inspections, and work closely with our Health, Safety and Environment team to minimise risks and protect our workforce.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct regular safety inspections and audits on construction sites to identify hazards and non-compliance issues
• Assist in the development, implementation and review of health and safety policies and procedures
• Provide safety induction and training to workers on site, including toolbox talks and safety briefings
• Maintain accurate records of incidents, near-misses and safety observations

• Monitor the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure compliance with safety standards
• Liaise with relevant authorities and external safety agencies as required
• Assist in the preparation of safety documentation, reports and statistics
• Support the development of emergency response and evacuation procedures
• Promote a positive safety culture and encourage worker participation in safety initiatives

What we’re looking for

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering or a related field
• Valid certifications in health and safety (such as NEBOSH, IOSH or equivalent recognised qualification)
• Minimum 2-3 years of experience in a health and safety role, preferably within the construction industry
• Strong knowledge of Malaysian workplace safety regulations, guidelines and standards including the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage with workers at all levels
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and ability to produce clear written reports
• Strong attention to detail and analytical capability
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic construction environment
• Fluency in English and Malay; knowledge of local languages is advantageous
• Valid driving licence and willingness to travel to various project sites
