Job summary

Power Shine Star in Batu Kawan, Penang, is seeking a Safety and Health Officer on a contract basis to lead health and safety across our construction sites. Based in Batu Kawan, you will develop, implement and maintain comprehensive health and safety programmes to protect our workforce and ensure regulatory compliance.

The role requires a DOSH-certified qualification, 3-5 years of construction safety experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to train staff, conduct risk

About the role

Power Shine Star is seeking a dedicated and proactive Safety and Health Officer to join our team on a contract basis. This is a crucial position within our construction operations, based in Batu Kawan, Penang. As Safety and Health Officer, you will be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining comprehensive health and safety programmes across all our construction sites and activities. This role is essential to our commitment to creating a safe working environment and ensuring compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations. You will play a pivotal role in protecting our workforce and contributing to the overall success of our projects.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and monitor health and safety policies, procedures and programmes across all construction sites
• Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations
• Investigate accidents, incidents and near-misses, documenting findings and implementing corrective actions
• Provide comprehensive health and safety training to all staff members, including induction programmes and toolbox talks
• Maintain accurate records of safety incidents, inspections, training and statutory documentation
• Liaise with regulatory authorities and manage compliance with local health and safety legislation
• Develop and coordinate emergency response procedures and conduct regular drills
• Advise management and site teams on best practices for hazard control and risk mitigation
• Monitor the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure proper maintenance of safety equipment
• Promote a strong safety culture and encourage worker participation in health and safety initiatives

What we're looking for

• Recognised qualification in Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH certified or equivalent)
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a Safety and Health Officer in the construction industry
• In-depth knowledge of Malaysian health and safety legislation, particularly the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994
• Strong understanding of construction site hazards and risk assessment methodologies
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to train and engage workers at all levels
• Proficiency in incident investigation and root cause analysis
• Competence in developing and maintaining health and safety documentation and recordsAbility to work independently and take initiative whilst collaborating effectively with site management teams
• Physical fitness to conduct regular site inspections and walkarounds
• First aid certification (preferred but not essential)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with safety management software (preferred)
