Job summary

Armstrong Auto Parts Sdn Bhd in Malaysia is seeking a Research and Development Engineer to translate customer specifications into robust product designs and manage drawings and documentation. You will plan and supervise testing, support APQP projects, and drive design improvements across development stages.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Automotive Engineering or equivalent
• 0-3 years of experience in product design, engineering or R&D environment; automotive experience is a plus
• Strong ability to translate customer specs into design requirements
• Experience with engineering drawings, GD&T and interpretation of mechanical designs
• Familiarity with APQP, ECN/ECR processes and design validation methods
• Analytical mindset, attention to detail, effective cross-functional communication

Job description

2. Technical Specification Management

2.1 Analyze customer technical specifications and translate them into product design requirements.

2.2 Ensure product drawings and design documentation reflect all technical specifications.

2.3 Maintain proper documentation of technical requirements originating from customers, internal standards or technical advisors.

3. Product Testing & Validation

3.1 Identify testing requirements according to customer specifications and product design requirements.

3.2 Prepare validation plans and testing schedules for development projects.

3.3 Conduct or supervise product testing and ensure testing activities are completed according to development plans.

3.4 Analyse test results and recommend design empowerments when required.

4.1 Initiate Engineering Change Requests (ECR) when design improvements or technical changes are required.

4.2 Prepare engineering change documentation and submit for internal review and approval.

1.3 Support implementation of Engineering Change Notices (ECN) during product development or production stages.

5. Technical Support for Development Projects

5.1 Provide technical support to NPI during project development and milestone reviews.

5.2 Support prototype development and product evaluation activities.

5.3 Assist in resolving technical issues related to product design or performance.

6.1 Participate as a core member of the APQP team during product development projects.

6.2 Support preparation of technical documentation required for APQP deliverables.

6.3 Attend project meetings and provide technical updates related to product development progress.

7.1 Support value engineering (VAVE) and cost optimization initiatives related to product design.

7.2 Identify opportunities to improve product performance, reliability and manufacturability.

8. Others

8.1 To perform other tasks as and when required by Management from time to time.

8.2 To drive, implement, and maintain the company's Management System to ensure compliance with applicable standards and to successfully achieve and sustain relevant certifications

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Academic Qualifications – Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Automotive Engineering or equivalent

Experience - 0-3 years of experience in product design, engineering or research and development environment . Experience in automotive product development is an advantage.

Key Skills/Knowledge – Product design and development, engineering drawing preparation and interpretation, mechanical design principles, design validation and testing methods, APQP development process, engineering change management

Personal Attributes - Strong analytical and technical problem-solving capability, attention to detail and technical accuracy, effective communication with cross-functional teams, ability to work independently and manage assigned technical tasks, strong learning attitude and engineering curiosity, high level of responsibility and accountability

Preference Language: Good in Bahasa Malaysia and English communication (both written and spoken)

Possess a valid driving license
