Job summary

Jora Malaysia is seeking a material controller to manage raw material receiving, storage, and inventory accuracy in a busy warehouse environment. You will verify DO/PO documents, label items, and maintain clear stock records to support production control.

The role requires basic literacy with DO/POs, material knowledge, and physical ability to handle materials. Training on AutoCount and Excel will be provided; forklift experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Basic understanding of common engineering materials (mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium).
• Ability to recognise material grades, thicknesses, dimensions, and surface conditions.
• Basic computer literacy and willingness to learn AutoCount and Microsoft Excel.
• Able to read Delivery Orders and Purchase Orders and material labels.
• Good numerical skills and attention to detail.
• Physically able to lift, move, and arrange smaller materials safely.
• Willing to work independently and communicate with Production Control and suppliers.
• Experience in a manufacturing store/warehouse is advantageous.
• Forklift certification or experience is advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Receive raw materials and inspect against the Delivery Order (DO) and Purchase Order (PO).
• Store and organise materials by type, grade, thickness, and dimensions.
• Maintain accurate records of all materials received, issued, and remaining in stock.
• Monitor stock levels and provide timely information for replenishment.
• Record material movements and ensure proper labelling and traceability.
• Label materials clearly and maintain traceability from receipt to production.
• Learn and use AutoCount and Excel to record stock movements and stock balances.
• Undertake any other duties assigned by the superior.

Key Responsibilities

1. Raw Material Receiving and Inspection

• Receive raw materials delivered by suppliers.
• Check the material type, specification, dimensions, quantity, and other relevant details against the supplier’s Delivery Order (DO) and Purchase Order (PO), where applicable.
• Identify and report any discrepancies, shortages, incorrect materials, or damaged materials.
• Perform basic visual and cosmetic inspections of different raw materials for issues such as scratches, dents, corrosion, stains, deformation, or other visible defects.
• Ensure that non-conforming or questionable materials are properly identified and separated for further action.

2. Material Storage and Organisation

• Store and arrange raw materials systematically according to material type, grade, thickness, dimensions, or other appropriate categories.
• Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe raw material storage area.
• Ensure that materials can be easily located, retrieved, and counted.
• Follow proper storage practices to prevent damage, deterioration, contamination, or material mix-up.
• Assist with moving and arranging smaller materials manually.
• Use the appropriate equipment for larger or heavier materials. Forklifts and other powered equipment may only be operated by trained and authorised personnel.

3. Inventory and Stock Control

• Maintain accurate records of all raw materials received, issued, returned, and remaining in stock.
• Regularly conduct physical stock counts and reconcile the results against system and manual records.
• Monitor stock levels and provide accurate, timely information when Production Control requires confirmation of available materials.
• Highlight materials that are running low so that Production Control can raise a Purchase Requisition for replenishment.
• Investigate and report any differences between physical stock and recorded quantities.
• Support scheduled stocktaking and inventory audits.

4. Material Tracking

• Record materials issued for production.
• When a material is cut to size, record:
• The original material size and quantity;
• The number and dimensions of pieces produced;
• The quantity issued to production; and
• The dimensions and quantity of the remaining usable material or offcuts.
• Ensure that all usable remnants and offcuts are returned to the correct storage location and properly labelled.
• Maintain sufficient records to show the movement and remaining balance of each material.

5. Material Identification and Traceability

• Label all incoming raw materials clearly and accurately.
• Ensure that material labels remain attached and legible throughout storage and use.
• Labels should include relevant information such as:
• Material type and grade;
• Thickness or dimensions;
• Quantity;
• Delivery Order or Purchase Order reference;
• Date received; and
• Heat number, batch number, or certificate reference, where applicable.
• Maintain traceability from material receipt through storage, cutting, and issuance to production.
• Prevent materials of different grades or specifications from being mixed.

6. System and Record Management

• Learn and use AutoCount to record material receipts, stock movements, issuance, and stock balances.
• Use Microsoft Excel to maintain and update material tracking records.
• Ensure that all records are accurate, complete, and updated promptly.
• File Delivery Orders, material certificates, inspection records, and other relevant documents systematically.
• Prepare basic material stock reports when required.

7. Undertake any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the superior from time to time.
