UA Materials Sdn Bhd is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our Perai, Penang team on a full-time basis. You will prepare cost estimates, manage budgets, and provide financial and contractual guidance across construction projects.

Key responsibilities include tender documentation, budget monitoring, contract review, and cost reporting to ensure profitability and on-time delivery. Malaysian regulations knowledge preferred.

About the role

UA Materials Sdn Bhd is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our team in Perai, Penang on a full-time basis. This is a strategic position within our Contracts Management division, where you will play a crucial role in controlling project costs, managing contracts, and ensuring the financial success of our construction projects. As a Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, managing budgets, and providing essential financial and contractual guidance throughout all stages of construction projects. This role is integral to maintaining profitability and ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.

Key responsibilities

• Preparing detailed cost estimates, bills of quantities, and tender documentation for construction projects
• Managing project budgets and monitoring expenditure throughout the construction phase
• Conducting site inspections and measurements to verify work progress and quality standards
• Preparing variation orders and processing claims for additional costs or delays
• Negotiating with contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers to achieve competitive pricing
• Reviewing and analysing contract terms and conditions to identify potential financial risks
• Preparing monthly financial reports, reconciliations, and project accounts
• Valuing completed work and certifying payments to contractors
• Maintaining accurate records of all financial transactions and contractual documentation
• Liaising with project managers, architects, engineers, and clients to provide cost advice and recommendations
• Identifying cost-saving opportunities and recommending value engineering solutions

What we're looking for

• Professional qualification in Quantity Surveying or Building/Construction Economics from a recognised institution
• Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience as a Quantity Surveyor in construction projects
• Strong proficiency in cost estimation software and Microsoft Office applications
• Excellent knowledge of construction materials, methods, and industry standards
• Thorough understanding of contract management principles and construction law
• Proven ability to analyse financial data and prepare accurate cost reports
• Strong negotiation and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
• Attention to detail and excellent organisational abilities
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
• Knowledge of Malaysian construction regulations and standards is preferred
