Qualifications

  • Must be a registered Chemist with Institute Kimia Malaysia (IKM) with valid membership.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Applied Chemistry or equivalent from a recognized university.
  • Preferably at least 2 years of working experience in a chemical/analytical laboratory, preferably within the food manufacturing industry.
  • Hands-on experience in chemical analysis of raw materials, packaging materials, in-process samples and finished products.
  • Hands-on experience with analytical instruments such as UV-Vis, FTIR, autotitrator and other laboratory equipment.
  • Knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025, GLP and laboratory quality control requirements.
  • Familiar with OOS/OOT investigation, CAPA and laboratory troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of Malaysian Food Act 1983, CODEX and other applicable food safety/regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in reviewing COA, specifications and analytical results.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and update packaging material testing procedures and ensure method validation is documented.
  • Support ISO 17025 laboratory accreditation by developing chemistry testing procedures per ISO 17025 and documenting validation.
  • Ensure all chemistry and packaging testing follows manuals and results are released within timelines.
  • Perform daily verification to ensure accuracy of chemistry and packaging analyses and report abnormalities.
  • Manage purchasing, installation and maintenance of chemistry and packaging testing equipment and supplies.
  • Provide technical advice to other departments on chemistry and packaging materials.
  • Monitor raw material compliance with CODEX and the Malaysian Food Act.
  • Ensure departmental targets are met within required timelines.
  • Develop and implement employee training plans.
  • Manage the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Ensure instruments are maintained; schedule maintenance and assist troubleshooting.
  • Conduct laboratory audits and proficiency testing as scheduled.
  • Stay updated on laboratory equipment and testing methodologies.
  • Implement 5S and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

We are seeking a Quality Control Executive to support our Quality Control Section in managing chemistry and packaging material testing activities. This role involves ensuring accurate and reliable analytical results, maintaining laboratory equipment and testing procedures, and supporting compliance with food safety, quality and laboratory accreditation requirements.

Key Responsibilities

1. Develop and update packaging material testing procedures and ensure that method validation is conducted and properly documented.

2. Support ISO 17025 laboratory accreditation by developing and updating chemistry testing procedures in accordance with ISO 17025 requirements, ensuring that method validation is conducted and documented.

3. Ensure all chemistry and packaging material testing is conducted in accordance with operational manuals and results are released within the agreed timeline.

4. Perform daily verification to ensure the accuracy of chemistry and packaging material analysis results, and immediately report any abnormal results to the Section Manager.

5. Manage the purchasing, installation and maintenance of chemistry and packaging material testing equipment and supplies required for laboratory operations.

6. Provide professional advice and assistance to other departments on matters related to chemistry and packaging materials.

7. Monitor raw material compliance with applicable legal requirements, including CODEX and the Malaysian Food Act.

8. Ensure departmental targets are implemented within the required timeline.

9. Develop and implement employee training plans.

10. Manage and ensure the smooth operation of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).

11. Ensure analytical instruments are maintained in optimal condition and scheduled maintenance is carried out according to plan. Participate in troubleshooting and problem-solving activities when required.

12. Ensure laboratory audit verification programmes and internal and external proficiency testing are conducted according to schedule.

13. Stay updated on the latest laboratory equipment and testing methodologies.

14. Proactively implement 5S practices, maintain a safe working environment and support company-wide activities.

15. Perform other duties as assigned by the superior from time to time.

Job Requirement:

Must be a registered Chemist with Institute Kimia Malaysia (IKM) with valid membership.

Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Applied Chemistry or equivalent from a recognized university.

Preferably at least 2 years of working experience in a chemical/analytical laboratory, preferably within the food manufacturing industry.

Hands-on experience in chemical analysis of raw materials, packaging materials, in-process samples and finished products.

Hands-on experience with analytical instruments such as UV-Vis, FTIR, autotitrator and other laboratory equipment

Knowledge and practical experience in ISO/IEC 17025, including method validation/verification, measurement uncertainty, proficiency testing, equipment verification/calibration and laboratory documentation.

Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and laboratory quality control requirements.

Familiar with OOS/OOT investigation, root cause analysis, corrective and preventive action (CAPA) and laboratory troubleshooting.

Knowledge of Malaysian Food Act 1983, Food Regulations 1985, CODEX and other applicable food safety/regulatory requirements will be advantageous.

Experience in reviewing Certificates of Analysis (COA), specifications and analytical results and assessing compliance against established requirements.

Able to perform technical evaluation of analytical results, identify abnormalities/trends and initiate appropriate follow-up actions.

Experience with LIMS or other laboratory data management systems will be an added advantage.

Able to prepare, review and maintain SOPs, work instructions, analytical methods, validation protocols and technical reports.

Experience in supporting internal/external laboratory audits and accreditation assessments will be advantageous.

Possess good analytical thinking, problem-solving, troubleshooting and decision-making skills.

Able to work independently, manage multiple testing priorities and meet sample release/testing timelines.

Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy, data integrity and documentation discipline.

Good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to provide technical support to Production, QA, FQ and other relevant departments.

Good command of English and Bahasa Malaysia, both written and spoken.

Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).

Willing to work in a laboratory/manufacturing environment and provide operational support when required.
