Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.
• Minimum 5 years in purchasing/procurement, preferably in manufacturing.
• Strong negotiation, supplier management and commercial skills essential.
• Experience in sourcing, contract management and import procurement.
• Proven analytical, communication and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency in ERP systems and MS Office applications.
• Knowledge of food safety/quality systems (e.g., FSSC 22000, ISO 22000, HACCP) is a plus.
• Fluent in English and Bahasa Malaysia; other languages a plus.

Bakels (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd is seeking an experienced and results-driven Purchasing Manager to lead our procurement function. This role is responsible for sourcing and procurement activities, supplier management, contract negotiation, cost optimization, and ensuring the timely availability of materials and services to support business operations.

The successful candidate will work closely with Demand Planning, Production, Quality Assurance, NPD, and Finance teams to ensure a reliable and cost-effective supply chain.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage all purchasing and sourcing activities for raw materials, packaging materials, indirect materials, and services.
• Develop and implement sourcing strategies to optimize cost, quality, and supply continuity.
• Manage supplier relationships, performance evaluations, and contract negotiations.
• Coordinate local and import procurement activities to ensure timely material availability.
• Identify and implement cost-saving and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Monitor market trends, supply risks, and commodity developments to support strategic purchasing decisions.
• Support New Product Development (NPD) and business growth projects through effective supplier sourcing and procurement planning.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety requirements, and regulatory standards.

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of purchasing/procurement experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
• Strong negotiation, supplier management, and commercial skills.
• Experience in sourcing, contract management, and import procurement.
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Office applications.
• Knowledge of food safety and quality management systems (e.g. FSSC 22000, ISO 22000, HACCP) would be an advantage.
• Good command of both English and Bahasa Malaysia; proficiency in additional languages is an added advantage
