Job summary

GDT Sdn. Bhd., a leading precision manufacturing contract partner in Penang, Malaysia, seeks an experienced Purchasing Executive to lead the purchasing team and manage procurement of raw materials, tooling, and surface treatments.

You will source from local and China suppliers, evaluate pricing and supplier performance, and collaborate with Production and Engineering to ensure timely material flow. You will negotiate terms, monitor market trends, and drive cost reductions without compromising

Qualifications

• Diploma/Degree in Purchasing, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 3–5 years of purchasing/procurement experience, preferably in a precision engineering or manufacturing environment.
• Experience in purchasing aluminums, steel and other metal raw materials.
• Experience dealing directly with China suppliers is highly preferred.
• Good knowledge of surface treatment processes and suppliers.
• Good understanding of tooling, jigs, fixtures and production-related tooling requirements.
• Ability to understand drawings, specifications and basic technical requirements.
• Strong negotiation, sourcing and supplier management skills.
• Good understanding of material pricing, tooling costs, surface treatment costs and lead times.
• Strong communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Able to lead a purchasing team and work independently.
• Willing to travel to China for supplier visits, sourcing and negotiation when required.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced and proactive Purchasing Executive / Senior Purchasing Executive to lead our purchasing team and manage the procurement of raw materials, components, tooling and outsourced processes for our precision manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and supervise the purchasing team to ensure smooth and efficient procurement operations.

Manage the sourcing and purchasing of raw materials, mainly aluminums, steel and other metal materials, from local and overseas suppliers.

Source raw materials directly from China suppliers and develop reliable long-term supplier relationships.

Source and manage suppliers for tooling, jigs, fixtures and other production-related items.

Have a good understanding of surface treatment processes, such as anodizing, plating, powder coating, painting and other finishing processes.

Source and coordinate suppliers for various surface treatment and finishing requirements.

Identify and evaluate new suppliers based on price, quality, delivery, capacity and reliability.

Negotiate competitive pricing, payment terms, MOQ, lead time and other commercial terms with suppliers.

Review and compare supplier quotations, including material, machining, tooling and surface treatment costs.

Monitor raw material prices and market trends to identify cost-saving opportunities.

Follow up closely on purchase orders and delivery schedules to ensure materials and finished parts are delivered on time.

Coordinate with Production, Planning, Engineering, Quality and Warehouse departments to ensure smooth procurement and production flow.

Monitor supplier performance and resolve issues related to quality, delivery, pricing and technical requirements.

Develop alternative suppliers to reduce supply risks and ensure business continuity.

Maintain proper purchasing records, supplier information and procurement reports.

Continuously improve sourcing strategies and achieve cost reduction without compromising quality and delivery.

Requirements
