Job summary

Malayan Flour Mills is seeking a Project Engineer to lead upgrading and modification initiatives for milling equipment and processes. You will coordinate with production for installation scheduling and liaise with vendors to explore cost-saving solutions.

The role includes overseeing CAPEX projects, implementing predictive maintenance, and driving continuous improvements in reliability. Strong troubleshooting across mechanical, electrical and PLC systems is essential for uptime.

Qualifications

• Experience in project engineering and modifications for milling equipment.
• Ability to liaise with vendors for cost savings and new solutions.
• Coordinate with production for installation scheduling and task prioritisation.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical/electrical/PLC-related failures.
• Continuous improvement using downtime data and root cause analysis.

Responsibilities

• Manage upgrades and modifications of milling machines and processes including drawings.
• Coordinate CAPEX project activities from budgeting to final commissioning.
• Lead energy audits and improvements of dust & air handling systems.
• Provide Tier-2 technical support for complex issues in mechanical/electrical/PLC domains.
• Identify recurrent downtime and implement long‑term corrective actions.

Project Engineering Upgrading/Modifications

• Milling Upgrades: Manage modifications & upgrading of the milling machines & processes via machine technology, process design & drawings.
• Vendor Liaison: Manage existing & explore new vendors for cost saving, new solutions & liaising with vendors for communication.
• Project Planning: Coordinate with production for scheduling of installation/modification of machines.
• Tasks prioritization: Support supervisor to manage & keep track of tasks on hand of project team.

Asset Management & Reliability

• Predictive Maintenance: Explore & implement condition based monitoring systems such as vibration analysis, thermography, etc to anticipate machine failures before they happen.
• Spare Parts Management: Optimize the inventory of critical technical spares to ensure a balance between cost and mill uptime.
• Troubleshooting: Act as the Tier-2 technical support for complex mechanical, electrical, or PLC-related failures that the standard maintenance crew cannot resolve.
• Continuous Improvement: Analyze downtime data to identify recurring breakdowns and implement Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to fix them permanently.

Energy & Utilities Management

• Energy Audits: Monitor "kWh per ton of flour" and implement strategies to reduce the carbon footprint and utility costs of the mill.
• Dust & Air Management: Optimize the pneumatic conveying systems and dust aspiration systems to ensure they are both effective and energy-efficient & complying with Department of Environmental.

Capital Projects (CAPEX)

• Project Management: Lead the installation of new machinery, from budgeting and vendor selection to final commissioning.
• Plant Layout: Design floor plans and machinery placements for expansions to ensure optimal material flow and ergonomic safety.
• Automation: Support in design, installation, commissioning & maintenance of automation projects to reduce manual handling and improve consistency.

• To perform any other tasks and assignments as directed by the management from time to time.
