Job summary

Exyte in Malaysia (Penang) seeks a Mechanical Project Engineer to oversee mechanical installation activities for semiconductor tool deployment and high-technology projects. Job description

Role Overview

The Mechanical Project Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, supervising, and executing mechanical installation activities for semiconductor tool installation and high-technology projects. The role will oversee mechanical and process utility systems, equipment/tool hook-up, installation, testing, commissioning, and project handover while ensuring compliance with approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and project schedules.

The Mechanical Project Engineer will work closely with the Project Manager, Mechanical Manager, supervisors, subcontractors, tool vendors, consultants, clients, and other MEP disciplines to ensure successful project execution.

Roles And Responsibilities

The Mechanical Project Engineer will plan, coordinate, and oversee mechanical works from engineering and procurement through installation, testing, commissioning, and handover. Responsibilities include reviewing mechanical drawings, specifications, P&IDs, equipment layouts, utility requirements, and vendor documentation; coordinating mechanical interfaces with tool installation and other MEP systems; supervising subcontractors and site teams; monitoring manpower, materials, productivity, quality, and progress; and resolving technical issues during construction.

The role will coordinate mechanical tool hook-up activities, ensuring that facility utilities are properly installed, tested, and ready for equipment connection. This may include chilled water, process cooling water, compressed dry air, vacuum, process exhaust, UPW, drainage, plumbing, HVAC, and other facility/process utilities applicable to the project.

The engineer will coordinate closely with equipment/tool vendors to understand tool utility requirements, connection points, pipe sizes, flow rates, pressure requirements, drainage requirements, exhaust requirements, and installation interfaces. The role will ensure that utility connections are completed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, vendor requirements, and project standards.

The Mechanical Project Engineer will also coordinate mechanical inspections, pressure testing, flushing, leak testing, balancing, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities. The engineer will review test results, coordinate rectification works, and ensure systems are ready for tool connection and operation.

The position will monitor project progress against the approved schedule, identify potential delays and technical risks, and coordinate recovery actions where required. The engineer will also manage RFIs, technical submissions, material approvals, inspection requests, progress reports, punch lists, as-built information, and project handover documentation.

The role is also responsible for ensuring all mechanical works comply with project HSE requirements, approved method statements, risk assessments, permit-to-work requirements, LOTO procedures, Malaysian statutory requirements, and applicable engineering standards.

Education And Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with substantial relevant project experience may be considered.
  • Relevant professional or technical certifications are an advantage.
  • HSE certifications such as Working at Height, Confined Space, LOTO, Hot Work, Permit-to-Work, or equivalent are preferred.
The Candidate Should Have Good Working Knowledge Of
  • Mechanical and process utility systems.
  • HVAC and ventilation systems.
  • Chilled water and process cooling water systems.
  • Compressed air / CDA systems.

  • Process exhaust systems.
