Job summary

Jora Malaysia is seeking a seasoned Project Engineering Manager to lead engineering initiatives from concept through mass production. You will develop plans, monitor progress, and coordinate with cross-functional teams across Engineering, Quality, Production, Tooling, Purchasing, Planning, Supply Chain and Customer Service.

The role emphasizes leading NPI activities, ensuring manufacturability, managing costs, and driving quality through APQP/PPAP and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage engineering projects from project initiation through mass production.
• Develop project plans, timelines, milestones and deliverables.
• Monitor project progress and ensure projects meet agreed schedules.
• Identify project risks, issues and delays and implement corrective actions.
• Coordinate cross-functional teams including Engineering, Quality, Production, Tooling, Purchasing, Planning, Supply Chain and Customer Service.
• Conduct regular project meetings and provide project status updates to management.
• Ensure proper project documentation and records are maintained.
• Lead NPI activities from customer requirements through prototype, tooling, trial production and production launch.
• Review customer drawings, specifications, BOMs and technical requirements.
• Coordinate product feasibility studies and provide technical recommendations.
• Ensure engineering requirements are clearly communicated to relevant departments.
• Coordinate prototype builds, engineering trials and pilot runs.
• Ensure smooth transition from project development to mass production.
• Review product and process requirements to ensure manufacturability.
• Provide technical solutions to product, tooling, process and manufacturing issues.
• Support engineering changes, product modifications and process improvements.
• Review and approve engineering documents, drawings, specifications and technical reports.
• Work closely with tooling, moulding, stamping, plating and assembly teams where applicable.
• Lead technical problem-solving and root cause analysis.
• Act as the key engineering contact for customers during project development.
• Attend customer meetings and technical discussions when required.
• Clarify customer technical requirements and project expectations.
• Coordinate with suppliers for tooling, equipment, materials and engineering-related activities.
• Monitor supplier progress and ensure deliverables meet project requirements.
• Support customer audits, technical reviews and project-related activities.
• Monitor project costs and ensure spending is within the approved budget.
• Review tooling, equipment, material and engineering costs.
• Support quotation and cost estimation activities.
• Identify opportunities to reduce project and manufacturing costs without compromising quality.
• Monitor project capital expenditure and provide appropriate justification for additional costs.
• Ensure project activities comply with company procedures, quality requirements and applicable industry standards.
• Work closely with Quality Engineering to ensure customer quality requirements are achieved.
• Support APQP, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plan, MSA and other applicable quality requirements.
• Ensure project deliverables meet customer specifications before production release.
• Participate in corrective and preventive action activities related to project issues.
• Promote continuous improvement and defect prevention.
• Coordinate production trial runs and pre-production activities.
• Ensure tooling, equipment, materials, processes and manpower are ready before production launch.
• Monitor trial and pilot production performance.
• Resolve technical issues affecting production readiness.
• Ensure all required documentation is completed before mass production approval.
• Support production ramp-up and stabilize the manufacturing process.
• Lead, coach and develop the Project Engineering team.
• Assign project responsibilities and monitor individual performance.
• Provide technical guidance and support to Project Engineers and Engineering team members.
• Promote teamwork, accountability and effective communication.
• Identify training and development needs within the team.
• Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
