Job summary

Chong Lek Engineering Works Sdn Bhd is seeking a Production Manager to own a manufacturing operation and drive impact from day one in a sickle manufacturing environment. You will lead production planning, safety programs, and process improvements while collaborating with cross-functional teams to shape the operation.

The ideal candidate has ~5 years in production/manufacturing, with at least 2 years in a managerial role, and hands-on metal fabrication experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, manufacturing, industrial engineering or related field is preferred.
• 5 years of production/manufacturing experience; at least 2 years in a managerial/supervisory role.
• Hands-on experience with metal fabrication processes (laser cutting, heat treatment, grinding, polishing).
• Proficiency in Bahasa Malaysia and English; Mandarin a plus for broader stakeholder engagement.

Responsibilities

• Lead production planning and monitor daily, weekly, and monthly schedules to meet targets.
• Coordinate with procurement and inventory to ensure material availability.
• Drive continuous improvement to reduce cycle time, scrap, and costs.
• Champion workplace safety and implement health standards; train staff as needed.
• Develop and maintain SOPs, work instructions, process flow charts, and KPI tracking.
• Collaborate with design engineering, procurement, maintenance, and QA teams to align production end-to-end.
• Support automation, new product development, and trial runs to drive growth.

This is an urgent opportunity for an experienced production professional to take ownership of a manufacturing operation and drive real impact from day one. The role offers the chance to lead production planning, safety, and process improvement initiatives within a growing sickle manufacturing business, working closely with the General Manager and cross-functional teams to shape the future of the operation.

What you'll be doing?

• Leading production planning: Plan and monitor daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules, ensuring production targets are achieved through optimal resource utilisation.
• Coordinating supply and materials: Work closely with procurement and inventory teams to ensure material availability, keeping production running smoothly and efficiently.
• Driving continuous improvement: Implement continuous improvement initiatives that reduce cycle time, scrap rate, and production costs, helping build a leaner and more efficient operation.
• Championing workplace safety: Ensure compliance with workplace safety and health standards, identify hazards in production processes, and support the rollout of safety procedures and training.
• Building strong documentation: Prepare and maintain SOPs, work instructions, process flow charts, production reports, and KPI tracking to keep the operation running with clarity and consistency.
• Collaborating across teams: Liaise with the design engineering team on product improvement, procurement on raw materials, and the maintenance and quality assurance teams to keep production aligned end-to-end.
• Supporting innovation: Support new product development and trial runs, as well as automation implementation, contributing to the business's ongoing growth and modernisation.

Who are they looking for?

• Relevant qualification: A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, or a related field will support success in this role.
• Production management experience: Around 5 years of experience in a production or manufacturing environment is preferred, including at least 2 years in a managerial or supervisory capacity.
• Manufacturing process knowledge: Hands-on experience with metal fabrication processes such as laser cutting, heat treatment, grinding, or polishing is valued, though equivalent manufacturing process knowledge from other backgrounds will also be considered.
• Language skills: Comfort communicating in Bahasa Malaysia and English is important for working with the team, and Mandarin proficiency would be an advantage given engagement with a broader range of stakeholders and business partners.
• Continuous improvement mindset: Exposure to methodologies such as Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, or Six Sigma would be a great asset in driving efficiency across the operation.
• Innovation exposure: Experience supporting automation implementation and new product development or trial runs would help hit the ground running in this fast-paced environment.
