Job summary

Qbonics (M) Sdn Bhd in Malaysia is seeking a hands-on Process Engineer to manage SMT programming, optimise PCBA manufacturing processes and support ISO 13485 readiness.

You will develop SOPs, train operators and work with production and quality teams to ensure consistent quality and traceability across the line. This role suits practical engineers who take ownership in a small team.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering or related field.
• 2+ years of SMT, PCBA or electronics manufacturing experience.
• Hands-on SMT programming, machine setup and troubleshooting.

About the Role

We are looking for a hands-on Process Engineer to manage SMT programming, improve PCBA manufacturing processes and support our preparation for ISO 13485 certification.

You will develop SOPs and work instructions, implement them on the production floor and train operators to achieve consistent quality. This role suits someone who enjoys practical engineering work and taking ownership in a small manufacturing team.

Key Responsibilities

• Create, edit and optimise SMT pick-and-place machine programmes for new and existing products.
• Set up component libraries, feeder assignments, placement coordinates and component orientation using BOMs and placement data.
• Perform machine setup, first article verification and troubleshooting to ensure accurate component placement.
• Establish and optimise solder paste printing, placement and reflow process parameters.
• Develop and maintain SOPs, work instructions, process flow charts, setup records and inspection checklists to support ISO 13485 implementation.
• Work with production, quality personnel and external consultants to implement document control, material traceability and manufacturing process controls.
• Support new product introduction, trial builds and production transfers.
• Investigate defects, identify root causes and implement corrective actions to improve yield and reduce rework.
• Support process risk assessments and validation activities, including maintaining the required records.
• Train operators and supervisors on approved procedures and verify compliance on the production floor.
• Support internal audits, certification preparation and closure of manufacturing-related findings.
• Maintain machine programme revisions and process documentation to ensure production uses the correct approved version.
• Coordinate with equipment suppliers on machine setup, technical support and troubleshooting.

Requirements

• Diploma or degree in Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering or a related discipline.
• At least 2 years of relevant experience in SMT, PCBA or electronics manufacturing.
• Hands-on experience in SMT pick-and-place programming, machine setup and troubleshooting.
• Able to interpret BOMs, Gerber files, placement data, assembly drawings and component datasheets.
• Able to independently develop clear, practical SOPs and work instructions and implement them on the production floor.
• Working knowledge of ISO 13485 and its application to manufacturing processes and documentation.
• Familiarity with ESD controls, soldering processes and electronics assembly workmanship requirements.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Able to work independently while coordinating closely with production and quality teams.
• Good written English for preparing technical documentation.
• Mandarin proficiency is an advantage for communicating with equipment suppliers in China on technical matters.

Added Advantages

• Experience supporting ISO 13485 implementation or certification.
• Experience in medical device manufacturing.
• Familiarity with IPC-A-610, process validation, PFMEA, CAPA and internal audits.
• Experience in AOI programming, solder paste printer setup and reflow profiling.
• Experience in through-hole assembly, conformal coating or box build.
