Job summary

Permai Rainforest Resort in Kuching, Sarawak seeks an enthusiastic Outdoor Instructor to lead and supervise a range of rainforest activities at our resort. You will deliver instructional experiences, ensure safety, and engage guests with biodiversity-rich programmes.

The role requires professional outdoor instruction experience, certifications in wilderness first aid or safety credentials, and strong communication skills in English (Malay/Chinese desirable). This is a full-time on-site position.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as an outdoor instructor or guide in adventure recreation or nature-based tourism.
• Ability to lead diverse guests in jungle trekking and water/land activities with confidence.
• Certifications in wilderness first aid, climbing or water safety are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan, deliver, and supervise a range of outdoor activities for guests.

About the role

Permai Rainforest Resort is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Outdoor Instructor to join our team in Kuching, Sarawak. This is a full-time position based at our resort, where you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional outdoor experiences to our guests. As an Outdoor Instructor, you will be responsible for leading, teaching, and supervising a variety of outdoor activities and adventures in one of Sarawak's most stunning natural environments. Your expertise and passion for outdoor recreation will directly contribute to creating memorable experiences that guests will treasure long after their visit, whilst ensuring their safety and enjoyment at all times.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and deliver a range of outdoor activities including jungle trekking, river activities, adventure sports, and nature-based experiences
• Provide professional instruction and guidance to guests of varying skill levels and experience, ensuring all participants feel confident and supported
• Conduct thorough safety briefings and risk assessments before each activity, adhering to all health and safety protocols
• Maintain and inspect outdoor equipment and activity gear regularly to ensure it meets safety standards
• Develop engaging activity programmes that showcase the natural beauty and biodiversity of the rainforest environment
• Monitor weather conditions and environmental factors to make informed decisions about activity scheduling and modifications
• Respond effectively to emergencies and provide first aid when necessary, maintaining appropriate incident reports
• Build positive relationships with guests whilst promoting the resort's values and commitment to sustainable tourism practices
• Work collaboratively with other team members to coordinate daily activity schedules and ensure smooth operations

What we're looking for

• Proven experience as an outdoor instructor or guide in adventure recreation, nature-based tourism, or similar field
• Strong knowledge of outdoor activities such as jungle trekking, water sports, rock climbing, abseiling, or adventure experiences
• Relevant certifications or qualifications in outdoor instruction, such as wilderness first aid, climbing qualifications, or water safety credentials
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences and inspire confidence
• Demonstrable commitment to safety practices and risk management in outdoor settings
• Physical fitness and the ability to work in challenging outdoor environments for extended periods
• Knowledge of tropical rainforest ecosystems, local flora and fauna, and environmental conservation principles
• Experience working in customer-facing roles within the hospitality or tourism industry
• Fluency in English; additional languages such as Malay, Chinese, or other regional languages are highly desirable
• A genuine passion for outdoor activities, adventure, and sharing these experiences with others
