Job summary

Permai Rainforest Resort in Kuching, Sarawak, is seeking a dedicated Kitchen Helper to support our culinary team in a full-time, on-site role. You will assist with food preparation, maintain kitchen hygiene, and help ensure high-quality meals for guests in a unique rainforest setting.

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Kitchen Helper to join the culinary team at Permai Rainforest Resort in Kuching, Sarawak. This is a full-time position that plays a vital role in supporting our kitchen operations and ensuring the smooth delivery of high-quality meals to our guests. As a Kitchen Helper, you will be working behind the scenes in a dynamic hospitality environment, assisting our chefs and kitchen staff with food preparation, maintaining kitchen hygiene standards, and contributing to the exceptional dining experiences our guests expect from our resort.

Key responsibilities

• Assisting chefs with food preparation, including washing, peeling, chopping and portioning of fresh ingredients


• Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the kitchen, including washing dishes, utensils and cooking equipment


• Organising and storing food items correctly in accordance with food safety guidelines


• Operating kitchen equipment safely and efficiently under the direction of senior kitchen staff


• Preparing ingredients and mise en place setups for meal service


• Assisting with the loading and unloading of deliveries and stock rotation


• Supporting kitchen staff during busy service periods to ensure timely food preparation


• Maintaining a safe and organised work environment, reporting any hazards or issues to supervisors


• Following all food safety regulations and health and hygiene procedures

What we're looking for

• Previous experience working in a kitchen environment, ideally within a hospitality setting such as a resort, hotel or restaurant


• A strong commitment to food safety, health and hygiene standards


• Physical stamina and the ability to work on your feet for extended periods


• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills


• The ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow instructions from senior kitchen staff


• Reliability and a positive, hardworking attitude


• Basic knowledge of knife skills and food preparation techniques (preferred)


• A willingness to learn and develop your skills in a hospitality kitchen environment

Permai Rainforest Resort comprises 18 units of non air conditioned cabins,1 Unit of double storey cabin, 3 units of air-conditioned cabins, 10 units of air conditioned Tree Houses and Camp Site Area.

Other facilities include conference halls, namely, Sepang Room, Embang Room, Belian Room and Jungle Hall.

Product and Service

Permai Rainforest Resort is a relaxing Eco Resort which provides recreational outdoor activities for individual travelers, families and groups. At the same time, Permai also conduct teambuilding, training and conferences in an exquisite location set by the sea in a lush green forest.

There are 7 streams running through the resort with 2 beaches and a dipping pool filled by stream water from mountain. With the resort built entirely under and surrounded by leech free forest, it is always cool when walking around which is why some rooms are only equipped with fans. Being built under a forest also means that wildlife is visible and so the animals such as Silver Langurs, Flying Lemurs and Otters are visible within the resort at different times.
