Job summary

Mandarin Oriental, Desaru Coast is seeking a lively Recreation Agent to support the daily operations of our sports and leisure facilities, ensuring guests receive exceptional service, safety, and enjoyment. You will assist in organizing activities, maintaining equipment, and promoting a fun, safe guest experience, while coordinating with Front Office, Housekeeping, Engineering and Security.

The ideal candidate has a high school certificate or diploma in sports or hospitality, good communication

Qualifications

• High school certificate or equivalent; diploma in sports, recreation, hospitality or related field is an advantage.
• Previous experience in sports, recreation, hospitality or customer service preferred.
• Lifeguard or fitness certifications are an added advantage (if applicable).

Responsibilities

• Assist in the daily operation of pools, beach areas, tennis courts and other venues.
• Welcome guests and provide information on activities and experiences.
• Ensure recreational areas are clean, safe and well‑maintained at all times.
• Set up, operate and maintain sports equipment and facilities before, during and after guest use.
• Support the organisation of existing and new recreational activities and events.
• Monitor guest participation to ensure safety and adherence to rules.
• Report maintenance issues or hazards to supervisor or engineering.
• Collaborate with Front Office, Housekeeping, Engineering and Security for smooth operations.

About The Job

The Recreation Agent is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the hotel’s recreational and sports facilities, ensuring guests receive a high level of service, safety, and enjoyment. This role assists in organising leisure activities, maintaining sports equipment and facilities, and promoting a fun, safe, and engaging guest experience in line with hotel standards.

As Recreation Agent you will be responsible for the following duties:

• Assist in the daily operation of sports and recreational facilities such as swimming pools, beach areas, tennis courts, Lumare Beach Club and other leisure venues.
• Welcome and engage with guests, providing information on available sports, activities and experiences.
• Ensure all recreational areas are clean, safe, and well‑maintained always.
• Set up, operate, and maintain sports equipment and facilities before, during, and after guest use, ensuring those equipment and facilities are clean, safe, and ready for use.
• Support the organisation and execution of existing and new recreational activities, fitness classes, group games, special events and entertainment programmes.
• Monitor guest participation in activities to ensure safety and adherence to rules and regulations.
• Assist in lifeguarding duties if certified and required, ensuring guest safety in water‑related activities.
• Report any maintenance issues, safety hazards, or equipment damage to the supervisor or engineering department.
• Maintain inventory of sports equipment and supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels.
• Provide excellent guest service, respond to guest inquiries, and encourage participation in hotel activities.
• Assist in setting up venues for events, tournaments, or special recreational programmes.
• Follow all health, safety, and hygiene standards as required by hotel policies.
• Work collaboratively with other departments such as Front Office, Housekeeping, Engineering, and Security to ensure smooth operations.
• Perform any other related duties assigned by the Recreation Supervisor, Manager or Management.

As Recreation Agent, We Expect From You

Educational Background

• High school certificate or equivalent; Diploma in Sports Science, Recreation, Hospitality, Hotel Management or related field is an advantage.
• Previous experience in sports, recreation, hospitality, or customer service is preferred.

Skills

• Basic knowledge of sports, fitness activities, and recreational operations.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to interact with guests from different countries and cultures.
• Energetic, outgoing, and guest‑focused personality.
• Ability to work in outdoor environments and on shift schedules.
• Physically fit and able to participate in sports and recreational activities.
• Lifeguard or fitness certifications are an added advantage (if applicable).
• Basic knowledge of safety and first aid is an advantage
