Job summary

HORIZONTECH INDUSTRIES SDN BHD in Perai, Penang is seeking a Metal Work Draftsman to join our engineering team. You will create detailed CAD drawings and manufacturing specs for metal fabrication and structural projects, ensuring designs are accurate and producible.

Working closely with engineers and production teams, you will review drawings, apply GD&T, and maintain complete design documentation to support quality, efficiency, and ongoing process improvements.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Higher Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Technical Drawing or related discipline.
• Proven experience as a Metal Work Draftsman or similar drafting role.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and produce detailed technical drawings and blueprints for metal work projects using CAD software.
• Translate engineer concepts into accurate working drawings.
• Ensure drawings comply with engineering standards, tolerances and GD&T.
• Collaborate with senior engineers and production teams to clarify design requirements.
• Review drawings to identify errors and maintain documentation throughout projects.
• Create assembly drawings, exploded views and manufacturing process documentation.
• Support QA by providing precise technical documentation to production teams.
• Suggest improvements to drafting processes and standards.

About the role

HORIZONTECH INDUSTRIES SDN BHD is seeking a talented Metal Work Draftsman to join our engineering team in Perai, Penang. This is a full-time position that plays a crucial role in our mechanical engineering operations. As a Metal Work Draftsman, you will be responsible for creating detailed technical drawings, plans, and specifications for metal fabrication and structural projects. This role is essential to ensuring that our designs are accurately translated into manufacturable components and assemblies, supporting the quality and efficiency of our production processes.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and produce detailed technical drawings and blueprints for metal work projects using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software
• Translate design concepts and specifications provided by engineers into accurate working drawings
• Ensure all drawings comply with relevant engineering standards, tolerances, and industry regulations
• Collaborate with senior engineers and production teams to clarify design requirements and resolve technical issues
• Conduct thorough reviews of drawings to identify and correct errors or inconsistencies before submission
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of all designs and amendments throughout project lifecycles
• Assist in creating assembly drawings, exploded views, and manufacturing process documentation
• Support quality assurance processes by providing accurate technical documentation to production teams
• Contribute to continuous improvement by suggesting enhancements to drafting processes and standards

What we're looking for

• Diploma or Higher Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Technical Drawing, or a related discipline
• Proven experience as a Metal Work Draftsman or similar technical drawing role within the mechanical engineering or fabrication industry
• Strong proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent programmes)
• Comprehensive knowledge of metal fabrication processes, including welding, cutting, and assembly methods
• Solid understanding of engineering drawing standards, tolerances, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to work with precision and accuracy
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Problem-solving mindset and willingness to take initiative in identifying and resolving technical challenges
