Job summary

HORIZONTECH INDUSTRIES SDN BHD in Penang is seeking a Mechanical Designer to join our engineering team on a full-time basis. You will translate concepts into detailed drawings and designs that meet client specifications and industry standards for mechanical components, assemblies and systems.

You will work closely with senior engineers and project managers, develop 2D and 3D models, prepare BOMs and documentation, and ensure designs are manufacturable.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks.
• Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, engineering standards, and manufacturing processes.
• Experience creating 2D and 3D detailed drawings.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in technical work.
• Ability to work in a team and communicate clearly.
• Familiarity with GD&T is advantageous.
• Experience in mechanical design or drafting preferred.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, and assembly beneficial.

About the role

We are seeking a talented Mechanical Designer to join our growing team in Penang on a full-time basis. As a Mechanical Designer, you will play a crucial role in transforming conceptual ideas into detailed technical drawings and designs that meet client specifications and industry standards. This position is central to our engineering operations, where you will contribute to the development of mechanical components, assemblies, and systems that drive our projects forward. Your work will directly impact the quality and efficiency of our deliverables to clients.

Key responsibilities

Create detailed mechanical drawings and designs using CAD software in compliance with engineering standards and client requirements

Collaborate with senior engineers and project managers to understand design specifications and project objectives

Develop 2D and 3D models of mechanical components, assemblies, and systems

Review and refine designs based on technical feedback, manufacturing feasibility, and cost considerations

Prepare comprehensive engineering documentation including bills of materials, assembly instructions, and technical specifications

Support the design process from concept through to detailed production drawings

Liaise with manufacturing and quality teams to ensure designs are practical and producible

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of design standards, best practices, and industry regulations

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the design department

What we're looking for

Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Design, or a related engineering discipline

Proficiency in CAD software, particularly AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar mechanical design tools

Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, engineering standards, and manufacturing processes

Experience with 2D and 3D design modelling and the ability to produce detailed technical drawings

Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in technical work

Ability to work effectively within a team environment and communicate clearly with colleagues

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing project requirements

Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) is advantageous

Previous experience in mechanical design, engineering drafting, or a related role is preferred

Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, and assembly would be beneficial
