Job summary

ORIEUS ELECTRONICS is seeking a Diploma-qualified Mechanical Drafter to join our team in Shah Alam. You will prepare detailed 2D and 3D drawings (GA, fabrication, assembly) and develop layouts for automation machinery, robotic systems, conveyors, jigs, fixtures, and customised equipment.

You will convert sketches into accurate CAD drawings, assemble BOMs, and ensure tolerances, materials, and fabrication details are clearly defined. Collaboration with engineers and fabrication teams is essential.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Knowledge of reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and specifications.
• Familiarity with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
• Understanding of fabrication, sheet metal, structures, fasteners, bearings and pneumatic components.
• Experience with industrial automation or machinery is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed 2D and 3D mechanical drawings (GA, fabrication, assembly, components).

• Assist in resolving design issues and coordination with fabrication teams.
• Provide drafting support during machine assembly, installation, and commissioning.
• Occasionally visit customer sites for measurements and updates.

• Prepare detailed 2D and 3D mechanical drawings, including General Arrangement (GA), fabrication, assembly, and component drawings.
• Develop mechanical layouts for automation machinery, robotic systems, conveyors, jigs, fixtures, and customised equipment.
• Convert engineering sketches, concepts, and redline drawings into accurate CAD drawings.
• Prepare drawings based on project requirements, engineering specifications, and site conditions.
• Prepare and maintain Bills of Materials (BOM), parts lists, equipment schedules, and material specifications.
• Ensure drawings include accurate dimensions, tolerances, material specifications, and fabrication details.
• Maintain proper drawing numbering, revision control, and documentation.
• Work closely with Project Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Electrical/Automation Engineers, and the Design Manager.
• Assist in resolving mechanical design issues, fabrication concerns, and potential design clashes.
• Coordinate with fabrication teams and suppliers to ensure drawings are practical and suitable for manufacturing and installation.
• Provide drafting support during machine assembly, installation, and commissioning when required.

4. Site & Project Support

• Occasionally attend customer sites for measures, verification, installation support, and modification works.
• Make necessary drawing updates based on actual site conditions.
• Support the engineering team in ensuring projects are completed according to schedule and technical requirements.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, Mechanical Drafting, or a related field.
• Knowledge of SolidWorks or other 3D CAD software is highly preferred.
• Able to read and interpret mechanical drawings and technical specifications.
• Good understanding of mechanical components, fabrication, sheet metal, structures, fasteners, bearings, pneumatic components, and machine assemblies.
• Knowledge of manufacturing and fabrication processes will be an added advantage.
• Experience with industrial automation, machinery, conveyors, robotics, jigs & fixtures, or system integration will be highly advantageous.
• Good understanding of engineering tolerances, material specifications, and basic mechanical design principles.
• Good attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good communication and coordination skills.
• Able to work independently and as part of a project team.
• Willing to work at our office in Shah Alam, Selangor.
• Willing to travel to customer sites when required.
• Able to work under tight project deadlines.

Preferred Experience

Candidates with 3-5 years of relevant mechanical drafting/design experience are preferred.

Candidates with experience or interest in industrial automation, robotic systems, conveyors, machine design, fabrication, and customised automation equipment will be given preference.
