The Material Planner is responsible for coordinating the supply of raw materials, components, and supplies needed for production while optimizing inventory levels. The role ensures that material availability aligns with production schedules, minimizing delays and avoiding overstock or shortages.
Key Responsibilities:
Inventory Management: Monitor and maintain optimal inventory levels of materials, ensuring timely replenishment to meet production demands.
Material Requirements Planning (MRP): Use MRP systems to forecast material requirements based on production plans, sales forecasts, and customer orders.
Supplier Coordination: Collaborate with suppliers to ensure the timely delivery of materials, negotiate lead times, and track the status of orders.
Production Support: Ensure materials are available to meet production schedules and adjust plans to handle changes in demand or supply chain disruptions.
Procurement Collaboration: Work closely with the procurement team to manage material costs, negotiate contracts, and ensure the best pricing and terms from suppliers.
Inventory Control: Work with inventory control teams to manage stock levels, reduce excess inventory, and implement effective inventory turnover strategies.
Data Analysis: Analyze material usage, forecast trends, and provide regular reports on material availability, shortages, and overstock conditions.
Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks in the supply chain by addressing potential delays, quality issues, and supplier reliability concerns.
Continuous Improvement: Implement lean practices to reduce waste, optimize inventory processes, and improve material flow.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, logistics, business, engineering, or a related field.
3-5 years of experience in material planning, procurement, or supply chain management, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
Proficiency in MRP/ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle), inventory management software, and Excel for data analysis.
Strong ability to analyze data, forecast material needs, and solve complex problems.
Effective verbal and written communication skills to work with suppliers, production teams, and internal stakeholders.
Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively to meet production deadlines.
Meticulous in tracking inventory levels, ensuring accuracy in orders, and avoiding stock discrepancies.
