Job summary

UOC is seeking a Learning Experience Designer to design, develop, and QA digital learning materials on the Open Learning LMS. You will translate faculty expertise into engaging online and blended experiences and ensure quality across courses.

You will collaborate with the Learning, Teaching and Experience Excellence team to align designs with PLO, OBE principles, and assessment strategies, while leveraging AI tools to boost efficiency and content quality.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Multimedia Design, Computer Science, or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop LMS courses and digital learning modules.
  • Collaborate with academic staff to storyboard and structure content.
  • Support migration of courses to the LMS using generative AI tools.
  • Develop multimedia resources: videos, interactive activities, infographics.
  • Ensure accessibility, usability, and inclusivity in materials.
  • Review course designs for quality and alignment with standards.

The Learning Experience Designer (LxD) is a professional staff member responsible for the design, development, implementation, and quality assurance of digital learning materials and LMS course content at UOC. Working primarily within the Learning Management System (LMS) team and under the supervision of the Director, Learning and Teaching, the LxD translates faculty subject-matter expertise into engaging, pedagogically sound online and blended learning experiences on the Open Learning LMS platform.

The LxD also contributes user-experience requirements, insights, and feedback to support the effective implementation, adoption, and continuous improvement of the LMS and other learning technologies.

The incumbent will collaborate closely with the Learning, Teaching and Experience Excellence team to ensure course designs are aligned with UOC’s Programme Learning Outcomes (PLO) frameworks, assessment strategies, and principles of Outcomes-Based Education (OBE).

Key Responsibilities
1. Course Design and Development
  • Design and develop LMS courses and digital learning modules in accordance with UOC’s Gold and Silver Standards for course design to deliver a high-quality and engaging learning experience.
  • Collaborate with academic staff to storyboard, structure, and develop instructional content, learning activities, and assessments within the Open Learning LMS.
  • Support the migration of existing courses to the LMS platform, leveraging generative AI tools to improve efficiency, consistency, and content quality.
  • Develop and maintain multimedia learning resources, including instructional videos, interactive activities, infographics, and self-assessment tools.
2. Quality Assurance
  • Review LMS course designs submitted by academic staff and provide constructive feedback to ensure alignment with UOC’s course design standards and OBE principles.
  • Maintain and continuously improve course quality checklists and conduct regular audits of LMS content to identify gaps and areas for improvement.
  • Participate in LMS and system integration and implementation projects by identifying and communicating end-user requirements.
  • Ensure all digital learning materials comply with accessibility, usability, and inclusivity standards.
3. Faculty Support and Consultation
  • Provide one-to-one consultation and practical support to academic staff in designing LMS course structures, content, learning activities, and assessments.
  • Co-facilitate LMS training workshops and develop user guides, reference materials, and other resources to support faculty adoption and effective use of the LMS.
  • Advise academic staff on best practices in digital pedagogy, multimedia learning, instructional design, and AI-assisted content development.
4. LMS Administration and Housekeeping
  • Assist the Director in supporting academic staff to improve LMS adoption, maintain their courses, and track course development and completion milestones.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation, including course design templates, style guides, workflows, and standard operating procedures.
  • Support the collection, analysis, and reporting of LMS adoption, course completion, course quality, and other relevant performance metrics.
5. Innovation and Continuous Improvement
  • Stay current with emerging trends and developments in instructional design, learning experience design, educational technology, and generative AI for learning.
  • Pilot, evaluate, and document new tools, technologies, and approaches to enhance digital learning experiences.
  • Share findings, best practices, and recommendations with the CLT team and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to CLT knowledge-sharing resources and communities of practice.
Qualifications and Experience
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Multimedia Design, Computer Science, or a related field is required.
  • A Master’s degree in a relevant field will be an added advantage.
Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in instructional design, learning experience design, e-learning development, digital learning, or digital content production, preferably within a higher education environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in LMS platforms such as Open Learning, Moodle, Canvas, or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in e-learning authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline, Articulate Rise, or similar platforms.
  • Experience in using generative AI tools for learning and content development will be an added advantage.
  • Familiarity with Outcomes-Based Education (OBE), Programme Learning Outcomes (PLO), and their application in course design will be an added advantage.

  • Strong visual design sensibility and the ability to create engaging, intuitive, and user-friendly digital learning environments and materials.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and consultation skills, particularly when working with academic subject-matter experts.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent course development and review projects.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality and continuous improvement.
  • Self-directed and proactive learner who keeps abreast of developments in educational technology, digital pedagogy, and learning experience design.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Number of LMS courses developed, migrated, or reviewed per semester.
  • Percentage of developed or reviewed courses meeting UOC’s Gold or Silver Standard at first submission.
  • Faculty satisfaction with instructional design support and consultation, with a target rating of 4/5 or above.
  • Percentage of courses migrated according to the agreed LMS migration plan and timeline.
  • Quality, accessibility, and inclusivity compliance rate across developed and reviewed digital learning materials.
  • Contribution to the development and implementation of the eLearning Strategic Plan, guidelines, policies, procedures, and initiatives to promote effective eLearning practices at UOC.
  • Contribution to LMS and system implementation projects through the identification of user requirements, usability considerations, and stakeholder feedback to support successful implementation and adoption.
