Job summary

BMI in Penang seeks an Automation Engineer to drive equipment integration and plant automation initiatives. You will implement automation projects, configure edge devices, and support OT applications to streamline production.

Collaboration with IT/OT cybersecurity, reviewing audit trails, and providing second-line OT support are essential. Candidates should have PLC programming hands-on experience, industrial networking, and a strong engineering background, with a focus on continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in engineering/computer science or related field.
• Proven experience in machine automation and engineering.
• Hands-on PLC programming and machine integration with Level 3 systems.
• Experience in industrial networking and data collection from machines.
• Knowledge of OT cybersecurity practices.

Responsibilities

• Implement automation and equipment integration projects in BMI plants.
• Configure, install and support edge devices and software for equipment integration.
• Configure, install and support OT applications and servers.
• Coordinate IT/OT cybersecurity with BMI plant team.
• Review computerized system audit trails.
• Act as 2nd level support for OT applications and infrastructure topics
• Collaborate with end users to create requirements and specs for integration.
• Apply development tools and analysis methods to identify production improvements.
• Contribute to updating long-term equipment integration and automation plans.

Job description

Responsible for implementing automation and equipment integration projects in BMI plants

Configure, install and support Edge device and software for equipment integration on plant automation system

Configure, install and support Operational Technology (OT) application and servers

Coordinate, support and implement IT/OT cybersecurity with BMI plant team

Perform review of computerized system audit trail.

Act as a 2nd level support for Operational Technology (OT) application and infrastructure topics

Working closely together with the end users on creating requirements and specifications on equipment integration

Apply best practice development tools & analysis methods to assist in identifying Equipment Integration that can lead to production improvement opportunities and hardeness in BMI.

Taking active part in driving and updating the long‑term Equipment Integration and Automation plan.

What you will bring to the team:

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering

Proven experience in machine automation and engineering

Hands‑on experience in PLC programming and machine integration with Level 3 (L3) systems

Experience in industrial networking and machine data collection

Knowledge of Operational Technology (OT) cybersecurity practices
