Job summary

The Kuala Lumpur Journal is seeking a Housekeeping Supervisor to oversee daily operations of room attendants and the housekeeping team in a busy hotel. You will ensure all guest rooms and public areas meet our standards before occupancy and coordinate schedules across shifts.

You will conduct inspections, drive high cleanliness, train staff, and collaborate with Front Office and Engineering to maintain smooth hotel operations.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience in housekeeping operations, preferably in a hotel environment.
• Previous supervisory experience in housekeeping is preferred.
• Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
• Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
• Good problem-solving and guest service skills.
• Knowledge of housekeeping procedures, cleaning methods, and safety practices.
• Proficiency in basic computer applications and hotel management systems is an advantage.

Job description

Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of Room Attendants and housekeeping team members.

Ensure all guest rooms, including VIP rooms, vacant rooms, occupied rooms, check-out rooms, and décor rooms, are cleaned and prepared according to hotel standards before being released for guest occupancy.

Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, corridors, public areas, and housekeeping facilities to ensure cleanliness and compliance with established standards.

Maintain exceptional housekeeping standards to achieve high guest satisfaction and minimize guest complaints.

Ensure housekeeping storage areas, pantries, and closets are organized, clean, and adequately stocked.

Allocate rooms and daily assignments to housekeeping staff to ensure efficient workflow and productivity.

Train, coach, and mentor housekeeping employees to improve performance, service quality, and operational efficiency.

Conduct daily briefings and team meetings to communicate operational updates, priorities, and expectations.

Monitor staff performance and provide constructive feedback to support continuous improvement.

Prepare and manage staff duty rosters and schedules to ensure adequate coverage across all shifts.

Guest Service

Respond promptly and professionally to guest requests, concerns, and complaints.

Ensure guest needs are addressed efficiently and that service recovery measures are implemented when necessary.

Maintain a positive and guest-focused approach in all interactions.

Inventory & Cost Control

Monitor inventory levels of guest amenities, linens, cleaning supplies, equipment, and chemicals.

Coordinate replenishment and ordering of supplies as required.

Control housekeeping equipment usage and maintenance costs while maintaining quality standards.

Ensure proper handling, storage, and usage of cleaning chemicals and equipment in accordance with safety guidelines.

Coordination & Compliance

Work closely with Front Office and Engineering departments to resolve maintenance issues and support smooth hotel operations.

Manage lost and found items according to hotel policies and procedures.

Ensure compliance with hotel safety, hygiene, and security standards.

Respond effectively to emergency situations and safety incidents when required.

Requirements
