Job summary

Artscape Cafe in Iskandar Puteri, Johor seeks a Kitchen Assistant to support daily kitchen operations. You will prepare ingredients, assist in cooking, maintain hygiene, monitor freshness, manage stock, and ensure food is prepared on time according to recipes and standards.

You will work closely with the Chef/Supervisor, follow SOPs, minimize waste, and keep the workstation clean and well organized to deliver consistent quality across all dishes.

Responsibilities

• Prepare ingredients according to daily production requirements.
• Wash, cut, portion, marinate and prepare raw materials according to recipe and kitchen standards.
• Ensure correct portion size and minimize food wastage.
• Prepare ingredients in advance to support smooth kitchen operations.
• Assist Chef in preparing and cooking hot food according to standard recipes.
• Handle basic cooking such as frying, boiling, steaming, grilling and reheating when required.
• Follow the correct recipe, cooking method, portion and presentation standard.
• Ensure food is prepared on time according to customer orders or production schedules.
• Food Quality & Safety
• Check the freshness and condition of ingredients before use.
• Follow proper food handling, hygiene and food-safety procedures at all times.
• Maintain correct food storage temperatures and follow FIFO/FEFO practices.
• Immediately report any spoiled, damaged or abnormal ingredients to the Chef/Supervisor.
• Prevent cross-contamination between raw and cooked food.
• Maintain cleanliness of the workstation, cooking equipment and kitchen area throughout operations.
• Clean and sanitize equipment and working surfaces after use.
• Ensure utensils and equipment are returned to the correct storage area.
• Follow kitchen opening and closing cleaning procedures.
• Assist in receiving and checking kitchen ingredients.
• Ensure ingredients are properly labelled, dated and stored.
• Inform the Chef/Supervisor when stock is running low.
• Avoid unnecessary wastage, overproduction or incorrect usage of ingredients.
• Daily Kitchen Operations
• Follow daily preparation and production lists given by the Chef/Supervisor.
• Support other kitchen sections when required.
• Maintain good teamwork and communication with kitchen and service staff.
• Follow company SOPs, recipes and instructions from the Chef/Supervisor.
• Complete assigned tasks within the required timeline.
