Job summary

ESTEK Automation Sdn Bhd is seeking a Field Application Engineer in Batu Kawan, Penang, to deliver on-site technical support and solutions for our automation offerings. You will install, configure, commission systems, troubleshoot field issues, train customers, and document configurations while coordinating with the internal engineering team.

A Diploma or degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering is required, with 2–5 years in field engineering and a willingness to travel within Penang.

Qualifications

• Strong ability to read drawings, schematics and system documentation.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure and commission automation systems at client sites.

About the role

Estek Automation Sdn Bhd is seeking a Field Application Engineer to join our growing team in Batu Kawan, Penang. This is a full-time position that plays a crucial role in delivering technical support and expertise directly to our clients in the field. As a Field Application Engineer, you will be the critical link between our engineering team and customers, ensuring successful implementation, troubleshooting, and optimisation of our automation solutions. This role is essential to our business objectives, directly impacting customer satisfaction, product performance, and our market reputation in the engineering and automation sector.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure and commission automation systems and equipment at client sites
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting for equipment failures and operational issues
• Conduct on-site training for customers on system operation and maintenance
• Document system configurations, installations and performance metrics
• Liaise between customers and the internal engineering team to address technical requirements
• Perform preventive maintenance inspections and system optimisations
• Identify opportunities for system enhancements and cost savings for clients
• Maintain accurate records of all field visits and technical interventions
• Contribute to continuous improvement of installation and support processes

What we're looking for

• Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
• 2-5 years of experience in field engineering, automation systems, or industrial equipment support
• Strong technical knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLCs), industrial automation systems and electrical systems
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics and system documentation
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with a methodical approach
• Strong communication abilities in English; additional languages are advantageous
• Valid driving licence and willingness to travel within Penang and surrounding areas
• Ability to work independently in the field whilst maintaining coordination with internal teams
• Physical capability to perform fieldwork, including standing for extended periods and lifting equipment
• Attention to detail and commitment to safety protocols and quality standards
• Preferred: Experience with specific automation brands or programming software used in the industry
• Preferred: Relevant technical certifications or professional qualifications in automation or electrical systems
