Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Software Engineering or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Proven experience in software development for control systems, industrial automation or electrical/electronic applications.
• Proficiency in programming languages used in control systems such as C, C++, Python or IEC 61131-3 structured text.
• Strong understanding of PLC programming and SCADA systems.
• Experience with Modbus, Profibus, EtherCAT or similar industrial protocols.
• Solid knowledge of electrical and electronic engineering principles as they relate to control systems.
• Problem-solving skills to troubleshoot complex control system issues.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities in a collaborative engineering environment.
• Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality, reliable software solutions.
• Familiarity with industry standards and best practices in control system design and implementation.
• Preferred: Experience with Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Beckhoff or similar platforms.
• Preferred: Knowledge of RTOS and embedded systems development.
• Preferred: Automotive, manufacturing or process automation project experience.

About the role

Estek Automation Sdn Bhd is seeking a Software Control Engineer to join our engineering team on a full-time basis at our facility in Batu Kawan, Penang. This is a strategic role that plays a crucial part in the development, implementation and maintenance of control systems that power our automation solutions. As a Software Control Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and optimising software that governs the operation of complex electrical and electronic systems, ensuring they perform reliably and efficiently. This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge automation projects whilst contributing directly to the success of our clients across various industries.

Key responsibilities

Design, develop and programme control software for industrial automation systems and electrical equipment

Create and maintain software solutions using industry-standard programming languages and platforms relevant to control systems

Collaborate with hardware engineers and project teams to integrate software control systems with electrical and electronic components

Conduct testing and troubleshooting of control software to ensure optimal performance and reliability

Document technical specifications, design workflows and software functionality for future reference and knowledge transfer

What we’re looking for

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Software Engineering or related field, or equivalent practical experience

Proven experience in software development for control systems, industrial automation or electrical/electronic applications

Proficiency in one or more programming languages commonly used in control systems, such as C, C++, Python, or IEC 61131-3 structured text

Strong understanding of PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) programming and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems

Experience with industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, EtherCAT or similar technologies

Solid knowledge of electrical and electronic engineering principles as they relate to control systems

Problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex control system issues

Strong communication and teamwork abilities, with capacity to work effectively in a collaborative engineering environment

Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality, reliable software solutions

Familiarity with industry standards and best practices in control system design and implementation

Preferred: Experience with specific control platforms such as Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Beckhoff or similar manufacturers

Preferred: Knowledge of real-time operating systems and embedded systems development

Preferred: Previous experience working on automotive, manufacturing or process automation projects
