Job summary

Labuan Shipyard & Engineering Sdn. Bhd. (LSE) seeks an Environmental Officer to oversee compliance with environmental laws and company standards at our Labuan facilities.

The role focuses on auditing waste management, DOE reporting, site inspections and incident investigation, with the aim of reducing environmental impact across shipyard operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental field.
• 2–3 years in shipyard/oil & gas/marine/industrial settings preferred.
• CePSWaM certification required.
• Knowledge of Environmental Quality Act 1974 and DOE rules.

Responsibilities

• Manage scheduled waste: storage, labeling, inventory, documentation, disposal.

Job description

We are seeking for Environmental Officer (EO) to manage and support environmental compliance activities at LSE, ensuring shipyard operations comply with applicable environmental legislation, DOE requirements and company standards.

Key Responsibilities

Ensure compliance with the Environmental Quality Act 1974, DOE requirements and applicable environmental regulations.

Monitor environmental performance through regular site inspections, environmental monitoring and compliance checks.

Manage scheduled waste activities, including proper storage, labelling, inventory, documentation and disposal.

Maintain environmental records and prepare required DOE reports, submissions, permits and compliance documentation.

Coordinate and support DOE inspections, environmental audits, environmental monitoring and regulatory matters.

Investigate environmental incidents, pollution issues and non-compliance, and implement appropriate corrective and preventive actions.

Conduct environmental awareness programmes and promote good environmental practices among employees and contractors.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management or a related field.

Minimum 2–3 years of relevant experience, preferably in shipyard, oil & gas, marine, construction or heavy industry.

Must possess valid CePSWaM (Certified Environmental Professional in Scheduled Waste Management) certification.

Good knowledge of Environmental Quality Act 1974, DOE requirements and scheduled waste management.

Experience in environmental monitoring, DOE reporting and environmental audits will be an advantage.

Good communication, analytical and report-writing skills, with the ability to work independently in a site/shipyard environment.

Knowledge of ISO 14001 Environmental Management System will be an added advantage.
