Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in environmental compliance/management, preferably in civil/marine/dredging.
  • Knowledge of Malaysian Environmental Quality Act and ISO 14001.
  • Experience with marine monitoring and coastal mitigation is an advantage.
  • Able to communicate with project teams, regulators and subcontractors.
  • Proficient in MS Office and environmental reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Implement EMS per ISO 14001 and project requirements.
  • Develop and monitor EMPs and documentation.
  • Conduct EIA and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Perform site inspections and monitor water/air/noise/marine biodiversity.
  • Ensure dredging and marine work comply with permits and guidelines.
  • Liaise with DOE, Marine Dept, and local councils.
  • Monitor waste management and reporting to regulators.
  • Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
  • Prepare environmental reports and data submissions for stakeholders.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Environmental Officer to oversee and ensure compliance with environmental standards and regulations in our civil engineering, marine, and dredging projects. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of environmental protection measures, with a strong focus on sustainability and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

Implement and maintain the Environmental Management System (EMS) in accordance with ISO 14001 and project requirements.

Develop, update, and monitor the Environmental Management Plan (EMP) and associated documentation.

Conduct environmental risk assessments, environmental impact assessments (EIA), and ensure compliance with EIA conditions.

Perform regular site inspections, audits, and monitoring of environmental parameters such as water quality, air quality, noise levels, and marine biodiversity.

Ensure all dredging, reclamation, and marine construction activities comply with environmental permits, laws, and regulatory guidelines.

Liaise with local environmental authorities (e.g., DOE, Marine Department, local councils) for approvals, reporting, and compliance matters.

Monitor waste management practices including storage, segregation, disposal, and recycling according to regulations.

Investigate and report any environmental incidents, non-conformances, or complaints, and implement corrective actions.

Prepare and submit timely environmental reports, monitoring data, and documentation to stakeholders and regulators.

Conduct environmental awareness training and induction for staff, workers, and subcontractors.

Promote environmental sustainability practices across all project phases.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Marine Science, or a related discipline.

Minimum 3–5 years of experience in environmental compliance or management, preferably in civil engineering, marine, or dredging projects.

Sound knowledge of Malaysian Environmental Quality Act, relevant marine environmental guidelines, and ISO 14001 requirements.

Experience with marine environmental monitoring, sediment control, and coastal impact mitigation is an advantage.

Competent in preparing and interpreting environmental monitoring data and reports.

Able to communicate effectively with project teams, regulatory authorities, and subcontractors.

Proficient in Microsoft Office and environmental reporting software.

Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.

High attention to detail and commitment to compliance.

Able to work independently and in challenging marine or coastal environments.

Good interpersonal and communication skills.

Team player with a proactive attitude towards sustainability.

Working Conditions:

Primarily site-based role with regular fieldwork and environmental sampling.

Must be willing to travel to various project sites, including offshore or remote locations.

Exposure to outdoor and marine working environments under varying weather conditions.
