Labuan Shipyard & Engineering Sdn. Bhd. (LSE) is seeking a Contract Engineer to manage contract drafting, review, negotiation, and administration across projects in the shipping and O&G sectors.

You will work with legal, procurement, projects, commercial teams and external clients, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure compliance, mitigate risks, and timely contract closure.

  • Change Management: Handle variations or changes to contracts, assessing their impact on scope, timeline, and cost.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Ensure that all contract terms comply with legal, regulatory, and internal company policies.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Communicate with internal teams and external parties to ensure smooth execution of contracts.
  • Reporting: Prepare comprehensive review of the contracts, identifying any potential risks to the company.

Job description

The Contract Engineer is responsible for the preparation, review, negotiation, and administration of contracts for the company. They ensure compliance with contractual obligations, manage risks, and support the legal and project teams in contract-related matters. The role involves working closely with project teams, vendors, subcontractors, and clients to ensure the smooth execution of contracts from initiation to closure. The role requires a strong understanding of commercial conditions and national contract laws to provide guidance to project managers and other stakeholders.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Contract Drafting and Review:

Prepare and review contract documents, ensuring clarity, completeness, and alignment with project requirements.

Modify existing contracts as needed, ensuring all amendments are properly documented.

Contract Negotiation:

Negotiate contract terms with clients, vendors, and subcontractors ensuring favourable outcomes for the company.

Address and resolve issues or conflicts arising during negotiations.

Contract Administration:

Track and monitor contract milestones, deliverables, and timelines to ensure compliance.

Maintain contract documentation and manage contract-related correspondence.

Identify and evaluate potential risks in contracts, including legal, financial, and operational risks.

Work with the project team to develop strategies to mitigate identified risks.

Change Management:

Handle variations or changes to contracts, assessing their impact on scope, timeline, and cost.

Prepare necessary documentation for contract amendments and ensure proper approval.

Compliance Monitoring:

Ensure that all contract terms comply with legal, regulatory, and internal company policies.

Keep updated on relevant laws and regulations affecting the contracts.

Stakeholder Communication:

Communicate with internal teams (legal, procurement, projects, commercial) and external parties (clients, vendors, subcontractors) to ensure smooth execution of contracts.

Address queries or concerns related to contract terms and conditions.

Drafting and preparing official letters on contractual matters for government authorities, clients, vendors, and subcontractors.

Reporting:

Prepare comprehensive review of the contracts, identifying any potential risks to the company.

Provide regular updates to senior management on contract status.

Assist in resolving contract disputes, providing recommendations for resolution and ensuring minimal impact on project progress.
