Job summary

Sime Darby Industrial Sdn Bhd invites a qualified Sales Engineer to lead marine projects from scope to delivery. You will provide technical advice on propulsion products, coordinate with shipyards and designers, and ensure tests and commissioning align with timelines.

The role requires a degree in Marine/Mechanical/Electrical engineering, at least 3 years in marine or shipyard environments, and strong English communication. Travel and MS 365 proficiency are expected.

Job description

• Ensure costs elements for marine projects execution are within/below budgeted levels of with objective of improving project profitability. For all confirmed sales, foreign currency items must be hedged effectively.
• To lead the team for the success of the projects. Provide technical advice on the products and services offerings to customers (end user) and shipyards on the assigned projects and follow through on the project.
• Update and validate CAT product configuration, attachments and local content purchases and application of certificates includes engine, EIAPP, alternator, crankshaft and TVA calculation with factory and class endorsement.
• Timely delivery and completion of tests, trials, and commissioning of projects in accordance with the project execution timelines.
• Responsible for project executing coordination which includes liaising with shipyard project team, marine designers, and internal team.
• Ensure customer satisfaction through prompt responsiveness to customer enquiries and complaints. Customer enquiries and complaints to be effectively handled/resolved within 3 working days of receiving such enquiries and complaints.
• Planning, organizing, executing, and managing marine projects. Provide technical application & sales support for main propulsion diesel engine, cat propulsion applications, generator, and other deliverables under the scope of supply.
• Coordinate activities for effective implementation of project execution with shipyard, principal, vendors and clients for all marine projects.
• Working and supporting sales personnel in all branches, principals, and vendors.
• Coordinating with branch sales personnel and execution of the sales, product scope and technical support.
• To meet customer on urgent requirement, should be able to sustain high working pressure condition. Initiatives and drives are essential to complete the project within schedules / specification stipulation.
• To be responsible for milestone payments from customer by ensuring accurate invoices and prompt payment from customer in accordance with T&C of Sales Agreement.
• Act as a project lead by ensuring that all action items are being completed and reported on time.
• To be creative and innovative in terms of proposing solutions/ applications to customers.
• Support Sales Engagement for commercial and governmental projects from product inquiry to tender bidding.
• The jobholder is not confined or exclusive to the above-mentioned key responsibilities and may be required to perform other duties as and when required by the immediate superior and / or Management of SDI Division due to business expansions or requirements.
• Provide complete report on project activities for ease of project tracking.
• Supporting all Marine related agenda and activities aligned with Marine department sales strategies.

Job Requirements :

• Degree in Marine, Mechanical, Electrical or related engineering.
• Minimum 3 years of working experience in marine/shipyard industry.
• Minimum 3 years of working experience in sales engineer.
• Competence in commissioning and analysis related to marine engine and project management.
• Good command of English and possess effective writing skills and presentation capabilities.
• Willingness to travel and work outstation as required.
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
