Job summary

ELSA in Malaysia seeks an Electrical Chargeman to supervise electrical installations, perform preventive and breakdown maintenance, and troubleshoot systems to ensure continuous operation.

You will monitor performance, maintain records, and coordinate with engineers and maintenance teams, while enforcing safety and compliance and PTW/EIC where applicable.

Qualifications

• Diploma in science/engineering/technology or INSTEP certificate.
• Minimum 5 years in a supervisory role.
• Hold a valid Chargeman A0 CoC issued by Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST).
• Be registered as a competent person under the Electricity Regulations 1994.
• Familiar with LV switchgear, MCCB, ACB and motors; perform isolation, switching, troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, and supervise electrical installations in plants, buildings, or facilities.
• Carry out preventive, corrective & breakdown maintenance on electrical systems.
• Monitor system performance, maintain records, and respond promptly to faults or emergencies to minimize downtime.

Job description

• Responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, and supervision of electrical installations in plants, buildings, or facilities. The role involves carrying out preventive, corrective & breakdown maintenance on electrical systems, including switchgear, transformers, generators, motors, and distribution networks. Perform troubleshooting, isolation and switching activities, conduct inspections, and ensures all equipment is functioning efficiently. In addition, they are required to monitor system performance, maintain accurate records, and respond promptly to faults or emergencies to minimize downtime and ensure continuous operation.
• Beyond technical duties, the Electrical Chargeman plays a key role in safety and compliance, ensuring that all electrical work adheres to statutory regulations and industry standards. Supervise contractors and technicians, issue or control Permit to Work (PTW) and Electrical Isolation Certificate (EIC) where applicable and enforce safe work practices on site. The chargeman is also responsible for identifying hazards, implementing corrective actions, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives for electrical systems . Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills are essential, as the position often requires collaboration with engineers, operators, and maintenance teams while maintaining overall accountability for electrical safety within the installation

Requirement

• Diploma in science/engineering/technology OR Certificate from INSTEP
• Possess minimum 5 years of experience in supervisory role
• Hold a valid Chargeman A0 Certificate of Competency (CoC) issued by Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST)
• Be registered as a competent person under the Electricity Regulations 1994
• Well versed in operate and control electrical installations safely as per COC competency
• Understand equipment such as LV switchgear, MCCB, ACB motors Perform:
